Isn't that everything with winter gordy .I don't mind the snow but dislike the cold winds .But cold sure can kill off some of those darn bugs I would be happy .Lady bug invasion in the spring means lady bugs getting in the house and then you have stink bugs and flies .Lady bugs bite .

Yep, that is pretty much all of it! If it weren't for winter, I guess I wouldn't mind the season. The scenery is very pretty when the snow falls just right. But, I think I would rather live in Belize and be warm all year and not have to scoop any snow. I don't mind mowing grass, but hate scooping snow and refuse to do so unless it is absolutely neccesary. I'll let the girls remove the snow...

Sissy,

Those "lady bugs" are probably not lady bugs. They are imported japanese beetles that resemble ladybugs but they bite and they eat other garden pests. They are imported from the orient to eat and kill aphids and other bugs in soybean fields. They are just horribly prolific here.

That was just AWESOME JW!! It was a great "pick me up" and I have lots of those early spring bulbs like you, except mine are all still under ice and ground that is frozen solid! I think after this week the temperatures are all supposed to go up and I am really looking forward to that! :X3:
I need to get at one more filter but that filter is in the bottom pond and that edge of the pond looks like it has a foot of ice, should be able to reach that filter and pull it out, but with the pump still under so much thick ice I may not be able to reach pump to reconnect it, so at this point I just pushed that filter down under a big log to hold it underwater till next week when it is warmer, may be able to get it out then. It should be fine as long as it stays down and does not raise and float to top cause of all the spring algae stuck to it. Water is still moving well threw that filter as it is not plugged off, just that the early spring algae causes the filter to float.

I tried to melt some of the ice away so I could clean that filter but the ice was way too thick in the bottom pond. Top and Middle ponds have less than half ice and that ice is very thin. Thank goodness the big koi are in the top pond that has very little ice.

I'll clean my filters like yours in Spring as mine have not been in very long but I see they are collecting the gunk on them like they are supposed to quite nicely. Pond is nice and clear

Yes, soon spring will be here, just have to get threw another ExTreme cold blast from the North, Old Man winter is fighting with everything he has, going down, WAY DOWN tomorrow night, supposed to see wild wind chill values of below minus 40! I am just going to switch to the big 1500 watt red floating cattle trough heater as that will work much better than the 1250 watt green floating pond heater for tomorrow night.

Park tomorrow will a "quicky" and then run back into the warm truck for Poppy! Fat Poppy with her soft brown hair can keep me warm!!

I'm on the opposite side of everyone. Living in the Caribbean, dealing with no winter. We normally cool down this time of year, maybe around 68 at night (at least some nights). This year no winter. Its so hot! I had friends over at 3:30pm to see the pond, we couldn't even stand outside in the sun.

I'm dealing with far different issues here, its hot, the water is warm. I have wild iguanas leaving organics in the pond ...... if you know what I mean. Lol!

I wonder if my goldfish or koi will ever spawn/mate in these temps?

Cold not letting go here. Currently -2F. Expecting 2 to 4 inches of snow this weekend.
Pond was half thawed last week. Now just a 2foot opening where the bubbler and heater is. My heater has been plugged in
pretty much all winter. Ugg Sounds cold next week as well. Ground still covered with hard frozen snow from last weeks sleet and snow storm.

Lots of Robins here wondering why it is so cold. I feel sorry for the birdies. The Robins have been eating whats left on my crabapple trees.
Not a lot left on the trees for them. Not sure what els to feed them. Must of been 2 dozen out there a few days ago. They like drinking out of my pond.

March coming in like a lion here. Will go out like a lamb??????

Priscilla How nice to be in the Cayman Islands! :woot: My big koi are under the ice, wishing they were there! Have you seen the goldfish chasing each other yet? That is how they spawn, they all chase each other into the weeds and lay their eggs on floating plants and roots. I can't see why they would not spawn, they always spawn in the spring and early summer for me, but I have so many dragonfly baby nymphs in my pond also each year that eat many of my babies and then in the summer a small grass snake comes and eats small goldfish too. I imagine it is pretty wild where you live too, maybe things :vamp: are eating the babies in your pond too , natural "crowd control" I call it.
