Glow ball in the sky is shinning in on us again. Feels so warm sitting here in south window typing.................but step outside and freezing cold, not the cold that some of you are facing in no way but cold to us here that are not used to it. It is 27f now and rising. Pond has ice on it building up at night and not melting much during the daytime. Only down to 8f tonight. We will start warming up more each day and then the rains will return...........why wouldn't they?

Looks beautiful JW!! I see green!! Green grass and green stuff that never froze too hard in the pond!! I must check out Washington one more time .... have not been there since I was 20! Back then me and my sisters travelled down for a vacation one year, back then you did not need a passport. We traveled down from Kelown BC and went down that way, the countyside was beautiful with lots of fruit orchards. We had fun and partied down at one of the bars, and we stayed together in one of the hotels, people tried to tell me I had a funny accent! I remember the food was all strange looking in the stores, not like in Canada. Then I lost my military ID in some bar down there, and on the back of the ID was a note that said if lost please put in mailbox, it found it's way back to my Regiment and I had to do a lot of explaining ....

Thanks Colleen and yes we are green beans up here year round unless we get a heatwave and then w/ our sandy soil up on this hill we dry out and all the grass turns brown unless you water like crazy which we don't. It all comes back green tho once the rains kick in again. I think you would like it here in the winter as we don't get that long of freezing cold, nothing like you get and you would be out ponding and gardening all year long. Not me cuz we need a break for a few months. The thing you would not like is all the rain and not just in Spring, Fall and Winter. We can have Summers where we get rain too many days of the season which causes us to get grumpy and makes us want to move to the Southlands :sour:
But then we do not get all the bugs, poison snakes, poison spiders and such at least here on the West side of our mountains. The East side of Washington has all the poison critters and is much drier and hotter in the Summer but colder in the winter. Amazing how that Cascade mountain range splits up our weather patterns so differently.

Ya, that does remind me. Even like 10 years ago you didn't need a passport. I remember coming back down they just asked what citizenship and let you pass.

But most recently, we found the customs officials on both sides very rude. No smile on the faces. We had a neighbor who had a timeshare in Whistler so we went there a lot for a while, but she's moved now, so no more Whistler! One time we had to go into customs for something and my wife said that it was because I had an unfriendly face so for a while she had to drive and talk to them. And ya, it's true, despite my comedic talents, I'm facially quite unfriendly looking.

So if you find yourself being hugged by an unfriendly looking person, that would be me.

I found one of the U.S boundary guys quite nice the time I decided to ride my bike on the Canadian side just for fun. Hubby wouldn't do it. Border guy came screaming over a hill on the U.S side and looked at us both and said "Ok which one of you is on the wrong side and crossed over?"
Hubby squealed on me! The guy told me to come back over right now and not to do that again. He said the Canadian patrol would not be as forgiving as he was and he just smiled. I had no I.D w/ me either. I am a bad girl and take more chances than my hubby which sometimes gets me in trouble
Doesn't that surprise you? :jawdrop:

I don't let unfriendly-looking people hug me. I never know if they'll just hug, or sink their fangs into my neck! :vamp:

jw, thanks for the picture of your pond.:)

It gives me hope that spring is not that far away.
Moving water and greenery, even!

Hmm, I wonder if they have underground sensors because I'd always thought that it'd be quite easy just to saunter over. Especially like in the forest, who's gonna see you?

BTW, j.w has the biggest chance of being hugged by me since we only live a hundred miles apart. One time I was at the C.C. Filson outlet up north and saw someone whom I thought might be you. Anyway ya, be careful of hugging strangers.

So, I was at the gym and did some cardio for about 1/2 hour. When I came out I thought my body heat would insulate me but no, it was really cold. The wind blew right through 3 layers of clothing into my bones. It hasn't been this cold for many years. I used to boast of just wearing a fleece no matter how cold, but you really need a windbreaker on top of the fleece to block that wind. And just now I was doing a tire pressure check outside my house, I had to wear one of those Russian style fur caps with ear covers over my head and I could still feel the wind.

The border between the United States and Canada is marked by a metal post, as shown from the U.S. side near Neche, N.D. April 3, 2007. Along the expansive Canadian border, a lack of agents and antiquated motion sensors can make it difficult to distinguish between a would-be terrorist and a wayward moose, officials say. (AP Photo/Dave Kolpack)

Yep the U.S guy told us there were sensors and he came from a ways to get there flying up over the hill as fast as lightning! This all happened before the 9-11 attack so I bet things are better for tracking crossers nowadays. I would prolly get hauled to jail now if I did that.

Never been to the Filson shop up in Burlington so was not me John. Just feel free to hug anyone that you think is me tho and we shall see how that goes.

Sitting at 30f here and waiting for the snow to hit. They say it could happen but then they say you can win the lottery also. Those they people say a lot of things.
Everybody stay warm and Spring is on the way soon!
