Sorry, j.w., it seems like we both missed out! I've just been informed that the hose on their "Y8%$#*&^#@" (Snow Sucker 8000) is too short to reach my yard, and they don't expect the extension to arrive before July. I asked what the chances were of them getting it from your place, but he just laughed and said "NYET! Good Rooshians no deal with American Blondie middleman!!" So I guess that's the end of it. Oh, well.... maybe next year.

Too bad, too. I could have used that 100 Rubles!
Haro, you crack me up! I was laughing and laughing, the dogs were wondering if I had gone cuckoo!
Colleen, the last pic above, is sooooooo cool!!! I love that stretcher or whatever it is, to lock the fence. Very neat idea. At least I think that's how it works, pull the handle up, loosens the strap, put the post in the strap, and push handle back down to tighten it. Maybe that's common around your area, but I love it. Also looked like someone was trying to put up a fence to keep the cows out of that spring/pond, and never got it finished before the posts started falling down. Or, maybe never got the posts set into the ground.
And, how in the world are you picking up rocks? It's so frozen here that anything sitting on the ground is solid frozen to the ground. The only thing that was not frozen (I was looking for something to keep the dog shed door braced shut) were the landscape stones stacked on each other, and the rocks that were on top of other loose rocks. Happy rock shopping.

Got the ice melted off one pond completely today and got it topped off after thawing the garden hose. Fired up all the heaters in the other pond to melt the ice volcano from the stock tank filter. Was afraid it might overflow with the new freeze coming in. Had 2 1500w heaters running off house current instead of pond line for the heaters and when hubby went to go to bed said bathroom lights would not work! Partial breaker trip as temps have gone from 48 to 18! Unplugged one 1500 so hopefully that will hold the night. Not sure what else is on that circuit. Hoping this is the last of these polar vortexes!

CE that metal thing is to pull the gate shut so the cattle don't get out, farmer keeps cattle there in the summer to fatten them up on that big pasture. It looks home made, and it works good, you pull it up to release the gate and then you can dirve threw. That little pond is all natural but the cattle poo all over it and the water normally pours from the spring into the big trough and then the cattle can drink out of it or the pond just above it. The sun was shining just nice in spite of the cold, so I felt warm. Some of the rocks are stuck to the ground, but there is this really big pile of rocks that would cover a whole city block and piled as high as the houses on the praire, left over from the bridge construction, the big pile of rocks is too much for me to resist, like a kid in the candy store! Ha ha ha I always find some that are loose and some I thow another bigger rock on top to lossen. :)

Colleen,

Just observing your weather-underground icon and realized that you are warmer than we are here in Nebraska! It is currently -6 F (-21 C) here and you are showing +5 (-15 C).

We haven't been this cold for a number of years. But, we have been much colder. I do recollect a spell where we did not get above 0 F for over a month for the high temp, but I can't remember what year that was. 2011-2012 was our warmest winter. I think there were many days in the 50's, 60's and 70's then. I think the end of March hit 92 F for a day or two. There was very little snow then as well, very dry. Nebraska weather is unique. It is calm one minute, blowing 47 mph the next, cold as heck, hot as hell, raining, dry, snowing, tornados, anticyclones, cloudy, flooding, drought, grasshoppers, mosquitos, ice ages, mammoths and saber-tooth tigers running rampant, then they are gone, all in a week! Then we have zebra mussels and flying asian carp! The recommendation here is, if you don't like Nebraska's weather, have a coffee and a donut and it will have changed to your liking. Hee Hee :)

I'm in the midwest, and I'm colder than Colleen, too! Weather Channel shows I'm at 1 degree, so we shall see what my weather underground shows. Poo poo poo!!! I'm ready for it to get to at least the 20's for a high, 30's would be nicer, though. :blueflower:

All of our kin in Southwest Louisiana and deep South Alabama have the sleet and ice storms. All kidding aside it is a dangerous situatuation for areas that rarely have such weather. I called both families this morning. Thankfully everyone is prepared and safe. They are accustomed to preparing for hurricanes so that familiarity helps. It's the driving and exposure to the cold that is dangerous.

God bless all whether north, south, east or west. :)
