Send my your addy in pm, I will mail it to you, it is a small plant with a pup, bet it would do great for you. It would do ok here if I was better at misting it. Honey keeps our house dry, heat in the winter, propane, ac in the summer, he does not like humidity.

you lay it down, keep the growing tip up.

http://www.texaswaterlilies.com/Lotusplantingandgrowing.html

When the tuber arrives it should be dormant. Handle the tuber carefully so you do not break off the growing tip, called an “eye”. The eye is described as the part of the tuber where the leaves will grow from. You should be able to detect a spot on the tuber where leaves, not roots, were once growing. This eye must not be covered with either soil or gravel. Lay the tuber horizontally on the soil with the eye sticking up so it will protrude from the soil and gravel and cover with dirt. Before covering the tuber with the dirt, place a large flat stone on the tuber to help keep it weighted down and to keep the fish from bothering the tuber. The tubers have a tendency to float out of the dirt until the roots have developed

It should not start growing until it warms up, I have mine about 18 inches below water surface.

great I was not sure .I can see the starts from it so that is easy ..I thought maybe it was like the tulip bulbs .You plant it standing up with the growing part pointing up where the leaves come out.The guy who gave it to me is coming over to pick up the baby fish in trade .He only has 1 fish .So I caught 8 babies yesterday for him

Good luck with the lotus tubers, Sissy!!!
I got 2.6" of rain in the last day and a half (started Fri. night, ended last night), and pretty sure the heavy stuff is over with. Those nasty looking storms Addy posted went through IL before they got to you all. Ponds are full and overflowing slowly, so all is well there. Goldfish are swimming around some, koi are at the bottom, hiding in the garage caves. Guess they are smarter, save their energy until the water REALLY starts warming up! All ice is gone, too.
Found a toad in window well yesterday, when I was bailing it out (stupid gutter guy never came to put up new gutters yet ...) so this morning I "saved" him and tucked him under some leaves near the deck. Hoping he will find a good spot to hibernate now. Assume he was under the dirt/mud when everything went into hard freeze mode, otherwise not sure how it survived!

I guess anytime the temps get above 60 in December, all sorts of WRONG things come out! Frogs, toads, flower bulbs are peaking through the ground, trees are budding out. Bad thing is that all of these things have been "fooled" to think spring is around the corner, when it's NOT! Oh well ... at least I know the spring bulbs will be fine. Hoping Addy's seeds don't sprout and die! Sure anxious to see her new nectar garden next summer.

I am only 15 minutes from North Carolina and boy just got the bags filled with air from the compressor for fishies new home and got in and it is pouring out and winds came in real fast .I caught 2 more ,all are from 2 inches up to 4 inches and John was so happy with them .He can't wait to get home and put them in a tank .He wanted to put them straight in the pond because my pond looked so healthy and since he only has 1 cheap walmart fish .I told it was up to him .Doubled up the plastic bag and put it in a dishpan so it set solid

Sissy, my nephew is transferring from Hawaii to Virginia in May. Do you know where the Navy base is in Virginia, and how far are you from there? Asking cause I may come and help them move in May, and if you are within a reasonable distance, I would love to come see your place in person. :blueflower:

I told him he did me a favor .He said he only gave me 2 lotus tubers .Gosh that was more than i gave him and not sure what the babies were .He said he got his lotus from a friend who lives in Florida and showed me pics of the flowers and yep they are lotus .He saved me from buying seeds that I was not sure of .The ones I grew from seed were warm climate ones and did not come back .I should have saved one plant I grew for the nursery guy .

With our sudden drop in temperature this morning, it created a thick fog in the valley and with the sun shining through it was beautiful!
