Sounds like rough weather for Mitch, Colleen and MT! I know its just a matter of time before we are experiencing some of that nasty weather!

Been a beautiful weekend here, 54F yesterday and very little wind which is awesome. Netted a little out of the pond and cleaned up a little out of my flower beds.
Staying warmer for a few more days then back to freezing temps mid week.

Temperature still quite mild, hovering around freezing point this morning, Pond heater not plugged in cause no need yet.... but will be getting very cold in the next few hours I expect.

Light snow falling gently, still dark outside, sun not rising today..... blizzard is on its way and warnings issued on weather channel. My truck has 4 wheel drive so not much problem in the snow.

Today's front page news, "Stormy weather Won't Stop Landfill Firefighting efforts!" They are hoping the weather won't slow them down too much. Fire still continues to burn deep in the pit. Yesterday while at work, the wind changed and the smell from the fire driffed in the doors and cracks at work. Smell not as bad these days and I think they have it under control now. :)

Woke up to about 8 inches of new snow and it's supposed to continue snowing all day.
The high this week is forecast to be around 2 or 3F, the usual temperature for this time of year is 32F.

Next few days: 53/43, 56/49, 50/30, 33/21, 27/12, 25/16. Yep, that's our see-saw weather continuing and continuing .... ho hum ...All extra bubblers are shut off. Have not had to use the heater at all yet, bubblers kept ice open. Will shut everything back off when the temps only get to 30's, though.
Oh man, Mitch, THAT I would not like. I HAVE to go outside to feed my horses and barn cats, make sure everything is good for them, and would hate it if it was below zero for temps all the time. I can handle it a couple of weeks worth for all winter, but not any more than that! Well, I guess once I'm bundled up, I kind of enjoy being outside in the cold. Even enjoy shoveling show, but your snow sounds impossible shovel, as the winds will blow it right back where it was. Be safe, and stay warm!

Some of our neighbors have or have had horses. They sound like a lot of work.
Very little shoveling to do here, just the front step, if I feel like it, lol.
We probably won't be leaving the property here for the next week or 2. :)

They said it was going to rain last night and then turn to snow this morning. My kids were hoping for a 2 hour delay. None of the 3 happened. It's chilly, 39F and dry. The pond is very clear. I turned my pump back on when it was in the 40's. I think I'll turn it off later.

A squirrel discovered that there are seeds under the snow that the birds can't get to this morning.

Well we got rain up here last night John,I could here it pounding down and looked like hail all over our deck this morning or freezing rain maybe? They are still talking the S word and dark clouds out here now. Temp is about 37F but should go down in the low 20's tonight.

Lou I did not get rid of the moles I just try to rake away the evidence................I GIVE UP,THEY WIN

Mitch I wish I had squirrels instead of moles and man that's a lot of snow!

It's 40F right now, 1 degree up from earlier. We live on a hill and just bought new tires for our 4x4, so hopefully we will be able to weather through any snow. The road below us is always littered with cars after a snow fall because people drive out in the morning and come back and can't climb up the hill. Happens every snow year. We only live near the bottom of the hill and I'm so glad we don't live at the top.

How did you get rid of the moles?
Lou,
I've used this trap with success: http://www.leevalley.com/en/garden/page.aspx?p=10299&cat=2,51555&ap=2

The trap caught a rather large mole, but during the night a fox found the trapped mole and I found the trap with a dead mole in it in the middle of the driveway. (probably died of fright while the fox was trying to get it out...)
Too bad because I prefer to let them go alive in a far away part of our property.

I agree with Sissy. Not only will the milky spore kill grubs, but those same grubs become Japanese Beetles, and the such, so it kills them as well. Put it under trees or bushes that these beetles feed on, as that is also where the grubs will end up. If I remember correctly, we used it under our Purple Leaf Plum trees, which the Japanese Beetles would totally eat up in the spring. They then would lay eggs in the bark, which hatched to worms, which dropped to the soil, dug in and became grubs. The milky spore kills them, and it may multiply like Sissy said, I think you need to add to it a little each year, but not as much as originally. So, good luck with that! It's like spreading talcum powder, though, so never spread it on a windy day, or you will be spreading it on your neighbor's yard instead of yours! :blueflower:

Tow bans are in effect around Calgary now. I hope no one is traveling out there.
Colleen, I think you're going to get the worst of it soon..
