Addy, just looked at your bird feeder set-up; I believe that's galvanized iron pipe, not conduit. The pipe is much stronger, while conduit would probably buckle in a good wind! I may try something like that for this winter.

Well you asked a blond................yep it is iron pipe, sorry had a brain fart. We had it up with conduit, it bent big time with a wind storm we had. It is 1 inch in size, so far has done well, this is its 2 or 3rd year. We have around 2 feet in the ground in concrete. Do not use rope, the birds hang on it while they peck at their seeds, next thing you know the rope breaks (been there done that) Even the coating on the wire gets rough over time.

Lou here is what they say about our soil..totally fascinating and exactly what we are, the soil lines go right over your property with classifications.

Channery soil. A soil that is, by volume, more than 15 percent thin, flat fragments of sandstone, shale, slate, limestone, or schist as much as 6 inches along the longest axis. A single piece is called a channer.
Loam is soil composed of sand, silt, and clay in relatively even proportions

We are channery loam

Farmland classification: Not prime farmland
  • 0 to 6 inches: Channery loam
  • 6 to 17 inches: Extremely channery loam
  • 17 to 21 inches: Weathered bedrock
  • 21 to 25 inches: Unweathered bedrock
  • Slope: 15 to 25 percent
  • Depth to restrictive feature: 10 to 20 inches to paralithic bedrock; 20 to 40 inches to lithic bedrock

I got hailed on and the sun shone at the same time while out walking today. Sun is still shining but going to get darker earlier tonight and cold is coming. Time to drag the rolling potted plants in the garage again.

Well, let me see if I got this right, Addy's digging up rocks, Sissy and I are wondering what we could do with those rocks, JW had free food while getting "poked and prodded" downtown Seattle, and Mitch is practically snowed in these days and dipping into the "rum rations" with the hot coffee!! Ha ha hahaha....

I better not laugh too hard, cause it was snowing all day but mostly all melted, but now the roads and sidewalk are turning quick to ice!

It's a balmy 30F and sunshine and blue skies abound. Fell asleep on the couch last night watching Low Winter Sun on demand and woke up about midnight to a pitch dark room. My little lappy was on still and then I got hot so tried to turn the fan in front of me on and it wouldn't work. Then I noticed the internet connection on the lappy was off and then woke up a bit more and noticed the tv had turned itself off. Finally came to my senses and realized the power was out. Power back on this morning. Now the clock on our stove won't work. You can set the time but when you push start to save it it just goes blank. Everything else works. I don't like it when I get messed w/these little annoyances. How can I live w/o a clock on my stove? Sheesh

Exterior painting project finally underway! Raining today so the resourceful contractor has his man power washing all areas to be refinished.

Soffit, facia, gutter, downpipes plus all other original 20 yr old exterior trim being repainted to match new "Artic White" trim. Also having cedar fence, garden entryway and decorative lattice screen stained. Having a first class job done with expected first class pricing. :)

I had worked long hours this weekend so lazy this morning, just wanted to sleep in and do nothing, now I got to run around and get stuff done, so much to do these days. Got to make coffee then I will peak up!

Weather is cold and we had snowy sleet on and on yesterday, now ice on deck and need to get stuff put away....
