wind really picked up here but it is up to 72 degrees .My trees get tree fertilizer spikes plus I still have my dads deep root feeder that you hook up to a pressure washer .They were all around 6 ft tall 10 years ago and some of them are about 9 years old since the driveway had to be done before we could plant trees.I wanted fruit trees and the crabapple trees are for the deer THANK YOU took a lot of work to get this far

Your trees and yard are all gorgeous, Sissy. I'm wondering the difference of the Bradford Pears and the Cleveland Pears. We have the Bradfords here, and they are gorgeous in the spring with white blossoms and now are that burgandy colored leaf with deep green also. I suspect one of your type, maybe the taller thinner ones, are the Cleveland Pears? Are they hardier in the wind than the Bradford Pears? The Bradfords in our area that were planted in the last probably 15-20 years are all taking a beating in the wind gusts and storms we have occasionally in the spring, fall and winter. Lots of the trees are half gone, huge branches break off, in the wind.
I thought it was supposed to be mostly sunny today, so heading out late morning to transplant my tall and short irises and finally plant the day lilies I bought at least 2 months ago. (Been too dry to even think of digging in the ground.) Well, got all that done, but man it was windy and mostly cloudy! Chilly, only about 53 outside, but feels much colder. I just put on rain pants (so I wouldn't get wet kneeling down) and sweatshirt with wind breaker, and that seemed to do the trick. Stayed warm, but now very happy to be back inside and just listening to the wind, instead of being out in it. Tomorrow I will checkout why my skimmer pump is not pushing as much water as it should. Pretty sure something is plugged in the water line. Will flush it again and see if that doesn't take care of the issue. Water level is too high in both ponds anyhow. :)

Well that was a horrible drive all the way down past Seattle to that health fair. The weather was horrendously wet and windy. I had to have them take my blood pressure 3 times before they could get it to go down to normal. I was frizzle frazzled something awful and man there sure are a lot of crazy lunatic drivers out in that nasty weather on the freeways! I had to come home and eat 4 candy bars just to get me started back into the happy mode again
I got a good blood taker to take my blood for the testing but my poor hubby got shoved into this back curtain guys spot w/ no # on that spot. All the other places had #'s on them. I was done w/ mine and looking around for him so we could sit and eat the goodies they provide you with afterwards. He wasn't around and then I spotted him over in the corner in that tucked away curtained spot w/no #. Took him forever to get outta there. When he came out he said "man I think they just drug that guy off the street to take my blood". He said the guy had to stick the needle in 3 times and still could not get it right. He finally told my husband " let me find somebody who knows how to do this the right way"..................what..................why is he doing it if he doesn't know how? He said the guy was really jumpy and nervous like this was his first time ever drawing blood. Yikes I'm glad I got the nice lady to do mine. She knew what she was doing but after she put the band-aid on my arm she started shaking her arms like crazy like she was trying to fly away or something. I just sat and looked at her. After a bit she finally told me to do that w/ my arms when I got up. She said it helps get the blood flowing again and keeps the needle spot to not bruise. Sheesh sure wish she would have told me that before she just sat there flapping her wings cuz I thought she might be having some kind of attack or she was just plain nuts. Anyways, man what a wet and wild day!

Hey jw, maybe I saw you on the road today! I don't know about the health fair but hope you and your hubby got good test results!
Weather was crazy windy! Leaves and branches everywhere. I was on both sides of Lake WA today and was on the bridge. There were big whitecaps on the water and the wind was blowing lake water on to the bridge across 5 lanes to hit my car!

The cleveland pears are the taller skinner ones and are stronger and no fruit a pink and white flower and get taller than the bradford and is stronger .I planted 300 more tulip bulbs and son got here from work and he stopped at the store and bought 2 more bags of them .Geeze I am tuliped out .I would say here so far they have been about the same but I deep root feed mine to make them stronger plus I trim out all cross over branches but it is getting harder and harder to do each year as the trees get bigger.I will wait to plant the rest until I get another truckload of mulch to cover them over .

I believe it John as we and the other cars on the freeway were all trying to stay in our own lanes. The nut drivers tho were tailgating and cutting in front of all the other cars. It was a madhouse. We were on I-5 the whole way down to Kent and it was still dark most of the way there. Did you notice that all the leaves in the whole part of our state are all falling down in this one day. One hit our windshield on the freeway and it must have had a branch attached to it as it made a horrid thump which made me jump outta my seat. Fortunately my hubby was driving.

That's a long drive down to Kent! I was driving from Seattle to Mountlake Terrace. Wind has died down a lot now. My pond netting is covered with dead leaves and some even got inside the netting. Will have to do a lot of cleaning later.

Yep it is and we live in Arlington and before he retired he would drive back and forth everyday between Kent and Arlington! Don't know how he did it for all those years but he didn't seem to mind it that much. It's pouring up here right now in the northlands. Wind looks like it is dieing down here too now. I think the worst is over :claphands:
Enjoy the rest of your evening inside in your nice warm, dry house. Going to make a fire in the wood stove now as the temp feels like it is starting to go down :cheerful:

OMG, JW, I laughed and laughed at your post above about the health fair! Not that it was funny about your hubby getting that lunatic, but the lady flapping her arms... OMG I bet you and your hubby needed one of these afterwards .... did they provide drinks? :beerchug: I have really good veins, almost never has anyone had to stick me more than once. BUT, there are sure those that know how to "slide" that needle in there right the first time, and you hardly notice it! I used to get blood tested every 6 months on account of my cancer ... but now I'm back to once a year, since I'm past the 10 year mark! Woohoo!!!
It was extremely windy here today, just made it almost miserable to work outside. Well, that and the fact most of the plants I was putting in the ground I had to dig through about 8" of rock first to get to the dirt. Not solid rock, but it seemed like it at times.
Sissy, you already planted 300 tulips, and now 2 more bags? Holy cow!!! I planted tulips, hyacinths, and crocus in new landscaping area, and that total was less than 100 bulbs. I thought that was a lot! Do your tulips not come back year after year? I have some (the cheap ones from Menards) that came back this year, but the expensive ones from catalog not a one came back the following year. Not even the hyacinths. Maybe too wet, but someone said you have to replant tulips every year. I love daffodils, they multiply and are so easy to grow. I want to see those 300+ blooming in the spring!

Wow, good luck addy. Our tube seed container sometimes empties in a day!
Maybe you could hire one of the neighborhood kids?
I might ask my neighbor to do it for me, pay her a little bit, she babies our fish when we need her to, takes care of the pup on and on.

Is there a coupling on the pole? Describe the pole please.
It is the basic electric conduit, with a T at the top. On the T we put in eye bolts with pulleys, we then used the the plastic coated wire to hang the feeders on. Pull them up and down to fill.

Very basic but it works. I can hang 4 feeders. Here is a shot with a green heron hanging out on the top of it.

63 today, 55 last night, heading down to 29 sunday night, winter coming back again, then back up to 40 at night 60 plus day

Windy here today but mid 60s. Got some much needed rain this afternoon. We got our 2nd load of firewood in today. Hopefully won't need more than that. I got the water lilies cut back today while the water was still warm. Still had a couple of buds and they will have to be divided in the spring. Even put up the Christmas tree put up today! Know it's early but will be a very busy month so going to get as much decorating done as I can. Hubby is taking off a week before Thanksgiving to finish things up. Still haven't figured out how to run Christmas lights and pond pumps!

Is the wood stove your only source of heat? My dad's mother would not use natural gas so her heat came from a big fireplace and she cooked on a wood fired stove. During the winter I had the pleasure of chopping wood most every day after school.
