If I was in this situation, I'd be panicking right now, and not sure what to grab, what to leave. I guess my box of photos from when my kids were little and albums would be on top of the list. The rest, it can be replaced. I hope Colleen and her family had time to secure most everything, and that she got the fish caught and moved to safety. Living in a tent for a few days would be nothing, as long as they have a home to back to. Prayers .......

Yep she was in the military and she is a strong woman and she has her wonderful hubby and pups w/ her. They will be fine as long as they leave and take cover up on high ground. Then they can come back after it's over and hope for the best. When I think of all the wonderful pictures she has shared w/ us of all her hard work in the gardens and ponds it make me so sad. Says on that link of Mitch's that it will be worse than the 1995 flood and anyone who was in that one back then knows how bad that one was. Let us know more on how you are Colleen if you can read our posts soon. We are all thinking of you here.

I am alive! The city is not handing out sandbags this time, and I wish they would! I just got back from driving to the river over the bridge quick, the water is high, but has not breeched the banks yet. The fish from the middle pond have been moved to my sister house, but some are still there as I could not get them, they ran and hid. The small fish are still in the bottom pond, they are very small and I can move them to the house if required. The big fish are still in the top pond, and I don't think the flood will tech them, as the flood of 1995 never touched the ponds, just the front yard and basement. I have a big net that I can move the big fish if I have to and there is a big pond waiting for them if need be.

I am no longer scared, and we did move some stuff out of the basement. We were told to evacuate last night, but we are still here. We have now been told to get out by 10 am this morning, but I feel the flood will not be as bad as they say. Yes there is a lot of water coming down, but our saving grace will be the fact that the river basin here was low to begin with, and it is a long stretch from Calgary to Medicine Hat, so I think the water will thin out and fill up other low areas first and the bulk of the water will be "displaced" before it hits here bad. I do think some flooding will happen, maybe as bad as 1995, but I was here and we were fine. We will plug the basement drain drain and place hundreds of pounds of led weights over the drain, this stopped the water from flooding the basement in 1995 and hoeofully should work again. We have many sump pumps, and I have filled the two tubs (100 gallon cattle troughs) will water and placed them high up. The small fish can be moved to these tubs
quick if need be. We have prepared, and friends came yesterday from work to help, even the gouchy supervisor came and helped out! Grouchy supervisor was nice, not her fault she is grouchy, company works her so very hard...

Some of my neighbors who have low foundations, have moved out. Others are still home even though we were supposed to leave. Some local business down the street paid for sand bags and placed them at doors and driveways.

Thank you for all your prayers and help! We should be fine, it is in Gods hands now....

There are some areas in Calgary this morning that are having higher levels overnight because of the dam releases upstream. It's probably going to be high water for quite some time yet.

Stay safe, Colleen. Don't wait until the last minute and you can't get back to your house to remove things, though. I'm sure you know what you're doing, having been there in 1995 and 2005. I just hope you're right and your ponds don't get flooded, and if your front yard does, maybe there will be some treasures that will wash up into your yard that you will find later. Always look at the bright side. :blueflower:

Yes now is not the time to be complacent for sure! Just back from the river, and it is up at least 5 feet from last night, but still within it's banks. We have to stay positive, as that will help me get through this stressful time. If I stress out I will just be a mess and unable to function. I still think we should be fine, but the crest of the water will not arrive till 10 pm tonight now, as they have moved the crest back as the flow is slower than expected, which is a good sign, and that makes me feel better. I still say that it will not be as bad here as they think, as there is still at least a good 10 feet to go before I get really worried... when I see the water reach 1995 levels, then I will be worried.

The city has turned off the gas now to my house, we are supposed to get out, but we are still here, as are many people. If it does flood, I will get water backup from the creek and storm sewers, not the actual river, as I am quite a far way from the river bank, but I am still lower than the downtown area, which is right by the river. I should not get the actual river headwater that rushes and sweeps people away, just water slowly backing up on the streets. We have life jackets, blow up boats, and I can swim very well. I have swam acrros the river many times in my younger days, and I know not to tread water drag my legs or the undercurrent will take me away, but relax and float. I will be fine, If I see water creeping up down the street, where it floods first, me and the puppies will be gone! I know it sounds crazy, but we have been here for several floods that really scared me, so I know know what to expect, within reason, as every flood is different. I would be more worried if the creek was flowing fast and backing up, but it is still very fine. We have insurance, so things can be replaced, and I should be fine. But I will leave when the water starts to get very high, but for now, I am still preparing.

Just looked at the river again, up another couple feet since I last looked two hours ago, running faster and very muddy now. People are sandbagging like crazy, everybody on my block has left, no body delivered me any news paper today... The river is now rising at a rate of a foot per hour, and my blood pressure with it! Scared again going to pack the truck so I can flee the city at a moment notice!!

Water sold out at stores now, reports of price gouging in water, but I already stock up good the other day!! :)
