Sorry those goats are not pets and since they are boys she will be putting them up for sale on Craigs list. She wanted does. Same w/ the lambs.......both boys and will go up for sale.

Cloudy today and a few drops, more to come. Got my DNA results in and now spending a lot of time trying to figure it all out.

A friend in high school lived on a farm. Her family raised horses, goats and sheep. One day Sheila told me she had named a new born baby lamb after me. Boy, I was proud. A few months later I asked about my namesake. With a sad look on her face, Sheila broke the news to me that little Lou was in the family freezer. That's life on a working farm! :)

Is there an agency that can search for matches? Good luck J.W.

Since I work for the State, and we do DNA for paternity reasons on a daily basis, to prove to the Court that an alleged father is dad, the CPI (combined paternity index) must be at least 500 to 1. I have seen results lately in the .... I'm not even sure, but is this following number trillion??? 500,000,000,000 to 1!!! The lab we are using is called DNA Diagnostic Center, they go by DDC, and they have an unbelievably large data base. There are much smaller labs, and other very dependable ones we have had a contract in the past are: LabCorp of America and Orchid Cellmark. What lab did your testing for you?
I have no idea how to read DNA results, just know that it comes back with a 99.9999999% rating, or the person is excluded. Period. I would think you would need an ancestry DNA technician/doctor to read the results and see if you are related to someone else's DNA results. Didn't they give you the details, JW? Or, did you simply allow your DNA to be "banked" so it is out there if someone else is looking? I wasn't sure how that worked, I know you were trying to see if any others that had submitted DNA were related to you. Good luck!!!

For those of you really interested in the process here is a link and a video from youtube also: http://ldna.ancestry.com/

For others who just want it all in a nutshell heres a bit below.

I must wait now for the lady who we think is my possible blood mothers family to get her results. See the thing is is that my blood mother was adopted also as I was. We think her adoption was an inside the family adoption but don't know for sure. I was able to find my mother through information that my adopted mother had gotten before they adopted me and so got to know her adopted family members. The lady I am trying to match w/ sent hers in a week later than me so it will be a few more days till we find out if we are possible related. By looking at my results it appears that we have some distant relatives showing up as a match between us in other members DNA results and on their family trees.

How we make AncestryDNA happen.

A DNA test for gentlemen…and ladies.

Our new AncestryDNA test uses some of the latest DNA autosomal testing technology as a more comprehensive way to find family across all lines in your family tree. So one test covers both sides—maternal and paternal—and is equally effective for both men and women.
Looking for our Y-DNA or mtDNA tests? These specialized tests give you information about either your direct paternal or maternal lines. This means that Y-DNA and mtDNA tests limit the number of ancestors you can learn about.

The new test looks at all of your chromosomes, not just the Y.

Autosomal what?

Without getting too technical, the new test analyzes your autosomal DNA, which includes the entire genome—all 23 pairs of chromosomes—as opposed to only looking at the Y-chromosome or Mitochondrial DNA. Not only can everyone take the new test, but it also provides a more complete picture of your family history.
Also, the Y-DNA and mtDNA tests look at much smaller amounts of your DNA. For example, YDNA tests only look at about 40 locations whereas AncestryDNA comprehensively looks at the entire genome at over 700,000 locations, all with a simple saliva sample. 40 vs. 700,000? You don't need to be a scientist to see that this is a huge improvement.

Our BETA makes it better.

This exclusive BETA period means you get to be one of the first to experience this exciting new product. As scientists gain a deeper understanding of the data, our prediction models can evolve to provide you with even more information about your family history.

Wow high of 48 F tomorrow! :) Tonight the ice on the pond is almost gone and I saw 11 of my 14 fish. Hopefully the other 3 fish will show up in the next couple of days. Bottom of pond tonight is 37.5.

JW it's very complicated for sure. I watched this show on NOVA recently and it was about DNA and was an updated version just out this year, that talked about early humans and Neanderthals. Europeans have a lot of Neanderthal DNA, matter of fact white people have a lot of Neanderthal DNA and Black people have little or none! Black people did not come from Neanderthals! It was very interesting for sure!

Wow, JW, had no idea! Hoping it works out for you! Interesting video, too.

I have Native American ancestry that's never been researched [lack of interest? lack of information? not enough relatives who wanted the info passed down? Who knows why], and have wanted to have the DNA on my maternal side checked just to see if pans out.

Weather today: 58, overcast, some rain last night. Going outside to work on digging my bog, so will see if the rain helped or hurt....

I am thinking about my east coast pond friends. Looks like there will be some unbelievable amounts of snow falling in the next couple of days. Keep us posted, hoping you don't lose electricity. Hope you're ready for the storm, and can stay warm and snuggly at home, no need to go anywhere this weekend!
