I think I had too many pics in last post, so will try the waterfall pic here. Koi pond was covered in snow, so it was solid slush, no solid ice last night. Waterfall still running, made an interesting design in the slush.

Pretty snow CE and love your artsy fartsy photo's,lol! Pee boy looks handsome in his new top hat of snow. You must have a nice camera as it sure picks up the snow flakes falling down nicely

Cute observation, Colleen. JW, it's an Olympus SZ-12 and I don't think it's a very expensive camera. 14 megapixels, and for once I've learned how to use more than "auto" setting! I don't use 75% of the settings, but have fallen in love with the macro and super macro for my bug and flower pics, things that hold still and you can get up close. Those snow pics were taken in the auto mode with flash, nothing fancy at all. I'm sure they could have been far better if I knew how to use the other settings, but I liked them just fine. LOL
Yes, little Pee Pee boy likes his snow top hat ... while he pees in the snow. I should have used yellow food coloring, colored the snow in front of him. Haha that would have been cute!

Think we might have a problem. Been having to add water daily now. I think it's either one of my PVC joints leaking or maybe the turtles put a hole in the liner. I'm praying its one of my PVC fittings. We will just have to see. Not much a can do right now but keep it topped off. If it is the turtles, they will go live in our friends pond where they wintered last year. The forecast shows the deep freeze coming back. The pond ice has melted a bit. It didn't get nowhere above freezing, but the water temp must be getting warmer. Still no heater going in the pond. Ice is about 4.5 inches thick over the deep end.

I wonder what happened! I top my pond off lots too in winter, once or twice a week cause I run the heater and get lots of evaporation in the form of steam rising off pond. Maybe if you plug the heater in the ice will all melt and you can get a better idea of what is happening??

Yikes, went outside, assuming it was about 25 degrees or so, as Weather.com predicted (and is still saying for today, BTW ...) and my fingers got really cold even with insulated leather gloves. So, checked inside/outside thermometer, outside was not working. Looked on weather.com, it said it was 20 here when I looked at "hourly" .... looked at the forecast for today, and it showed 35 today, 29 tonight, BUT, when I looked at "right now", it said 11 earlier this morning!!! What's up with that??? How can the temps today be a low of 29 if it's 11 this morning? I don't get it. Anyhow, took some cute pics of my mule with his long hair and frost on the ends of the hairs on his ears and face, but now they won't load. I guess my plug in thingy is not working property, darn it. It "beeps" when I plug it in, but the pics are not downloading. Now I'll have to get another card reader tomorrow.

One thing about living here in rain country we never have to top off in the winter at all! Today looks like it will be a nice day. 32* right now but not a drop in sight of the rain from Spain. Gonna be in the 20's tonight so loaded up the wood box inside to keep us toasty through the evening. Got the dogs out across the road for their morning pee and once more this afternoon then done. Might get a chilly walk in today..........we'll see :helm2:

Bad news in my koi pond. Not sure if the pump that is about 3' down stopped, or if the water lines above ground feeding the Skippy/waterfall from that pump froze, but the waterfall stopped flowing, so I unplugged the pump. By the time I noticed it, not sure how long it had been, but the line was frozen up at the top of the Skippy, so decided to just leave everything as is, and to damage control after things thaw out. Only thing I'm most worried about is the garbage container I'm using for the Skippy. Worst case scenario is it will crack and split, but it can be replaced. The line is cheap sump pump flexible tubing, so that can be easily replaced for not much. Might go ahead and cut it at a place where a simply connector can be put, so that if/when it thaws, it can drain out. Pretty sure it can't siphon any water from the pump without the pump running, and going uphill with a one-way at the Skippy, right?
Good news is the bubbler is keeping a large area open, and the skimmers are still running on both ponds, and the bog on the goldfish pond is as well. The Skippy had ice on the top of that, so thinking maybe the ice got too thick, and didn't allow the water to get under it to go over the weir, and the pressure was too much for the pump. Both ponds will be good to go next weekend when I'm gone on vacation. Both bogs/skimmers/stream will be shut down, and just leave the air and water bubblers on each pond to keep the ice open. They are "safe" systems, no worries about anything freezing or breaking. :)
I'm most upset about weather.com saying it was only supposed to be in mid 20's for low today, when in fact it was down to about 10 last night! I would have watched things closer had I know such a cold snap coming. Learning as I go ...
