So sunny and nice here today...............only 50F but beggars can't be choosers here ya know! Got a nice walk in and came home to find addy's plant pkg on my porch so spent the rest of the day fixing them up. Nice plants addy and the lilies all have sprouts wanting to get growing! Thanks for sending them and they are so nice looking and thanks for the extras too. I just need to figure out how they like to be planted and grown and what they are?

I got my package yesterday, JW. It was like Christmas ... in March! I have my in a bucket of water weighted down so they are under water. Going to plant them in kitty litter pots probably on Sunday, or tomorrow if I get liner in and water filled and fish in the new pond!
KoiGuy, I want to know what you plan to do about the string algae. I have it BAD! If you have some way of getting rid of it, please share, or maybe it goes away on it's own, once things start growing ... it being so warm so early, the bacteria is probably just getting going, and the algae has taken the lead. I pulled a bunch out again today. Seems to be a never ending thing to do daily, and I'm getting really tired of it. Waterfall up and running for only 5 days, first 2 days pond was clear, then it turned murky and very cloudy. Makes me sick! I was able to see to the bottom, count spots on fish, but not now. Guess the bacteria needs some time to get going. Thinking I should hook up the UV light just in case suspended stuff is the cloudy problem ... tomorrow I'll do that, if I remember. LOL

well i'm gonna use a stiff bristled push broom to remove most of the string alge. the rest will gonaway pretty quickly. i have to drain the pond anyways. i pump the water from the basement pond out there. that way the fish are acclimated to it. in both temperature and chemistry. i then just add dechlorinator & finish filling with the hose, at a slow rate. or i have a freind with an intex 10" round pool. maybe i'll pump the pond water into it and just screw on the hose to the drain plug to finish refilling the pond. either way i'll be draining the pond and cleaning it up some.

I would have thought no algae in my filter, which was completely dry, stored away all winter, but noticed there is algae in it as well! I'm beginning to wonder if my well water has something in it that is feeding the algae, or maybe just being in full sun is doing it. Ho hum .... I could drain the pond down while I fill the new pond, and leave it drained down for the rest of the afternoon (about 10" or so is the most I will drain it down) and then scrub the sides where the algae was growing, if I thought that would help get rid of it. I wonder if the spores are in the water, though, and it will come right back. I'm going to get kitty litter in the pots and cover them with pea gravel, see if that helps, too! Going to put some kitty litter in a bag and place it under the waterfall, see if I can get something going with that as well. Anything to try, can't hurt, may help!

Neato Keeno addy. I think the ones you gave me are gonna hit the water surface here in no time too if we could get some warmer weather soon. I will hope so! What kind of plants did you find there?

I haunt the cheap racks of nearly deads, ow could not afford my plant obsession! Picked up some dianthus, splendens (armeria) lilac wall flower (erisimum) and anouk lavender

Glad lowes takes such lousy care of their plants, a little water, some dirt and poof they are back.

Holy cow, the places by me are just starting to get plants, so nothing is on death row, not even arrived is more like it. LOL BUT, I bought some plants that were in a large pot, $6, but I separated them and made them into 4-6 plants! They are perennials, too. I posted pics on my goldfish pond thread. :) At the end of the year, I'll be watching for them to go on sale, but never have sales on plants this early, not until end of July usually around here.

We have been so hot and they do not water enough, the plants end up on the 75% off shelf.
