Weather warning from this afternoon:
A cold front will sweep across southern Ontario late this afternoon. Ahead of and along the front, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop. Some of these storms could become severe, with damaging winds, heavy rain and hail the main threats. A few isolated tornadoes are also possible.

Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

And 60 miles NW of us, in the city of Barrie:

Eight people injured, four seriously. Roofs ripped off, houses shoved off foundations, vehicles overturned.
Barrie seems to be ground zero for tornadoes!

We had some severe weather just roll through much of Wisconsin and northern Illinois. A lot of trees down and power outages in the state.
I was lucky here. Strong wind, but I don't see any damage and the power is on. Chances for more storms tomorrow.

Miserable here hitting 100f, not counting heat index. They are saying a few days of this. We cancelled our going to the boat trip, figured better to stay in a nice cool house, than a decent cool boat.

Got a bit of rain yesterday. Need more

Again another heat wave on the way for us today. Temps in the high 80's today and going up more each day to follow. Please no smoke! Getting out today early for my ride to beat the heat.

Hot & Sunny, as always in Summer. 97º F predicted for the afternoon. Every season has it's charms, but Summer is my least favourite.

triggered a question, @addy1 ; does the extreme heat affect your hives/bees? I understand cooler slows them down, but how about the other way?

They drink a ton of water, take it back to the hive and use it to cool the hive. By fanning, like a evap cooler. I saw nothing but a steady stream of bees from the ponds to the hives.

In the am they beard, IE they sit outside the hive on the landing board removing some of the biomass from the hive ie heat.

I have vent boards on the top of the hive, a 1/2 hive box with holes in it covered with screens (to keep out other bugs) it helps remove some of the heat and humidity.

Storms are indeed on their way again. 40-60mph wind expected. Doesn't look as bad as yesterday.
