Well I'm home, not sure about picking up the kids under floor warning. In my years living in this location I've never seen such heavy rain. It is dark, 94% humidity. Not sure my pond can drain quicker than the rain, basement is flooding. One more hour of this, and my fish may just swim on over to visit neighbors. This is a lousy day.

@Tara yep this too shall pass and soon our days will be full of nothing but gray skies and rain. We don't usually get much snow or freeze but it can happen. I must say I do love it when we get the white stuff! Is it too soon tho for me to post little "I love snow" emoticons

Not sure what winter will bring, just wait and see I guess. @j.w . Right now my dogs are nervous as the thunder is so loud and freaking them out, they are pretty much glued to my legs.

Thanks @addy1 , I'm not worried about the basement, I have nothing important down there, and the gas heating system is tankless so it is mounted high on the wall. It's an old new england house so these old basements can be too damp to use for anything. Lost a large black walnut tree in a storm, then a wild cherry. My neighbors lost a large oak, and then had to remove some pines that were damaged in storm last year, I think this has impacted the rain runoff. I will have to think about planting some new plant life in this year.

I made sure my basement was well sealed before it was backfilled and made sure the gutters lead way out into the yard and made sure even though the back yard slopes toward the house I added a dirt berm and a run off ditch .If you see where the water is coming in then you have to resolve the problem outside that area .They said today we had 30 inch's of rain in my area

Tara, sorry to hear the wretched Florence is still causing so much trouble. She tore up my state and it will be a long time until we are back to normal. Some of the most beautiful and expensive property, right next to our 2 huge rivers, are now flooded and have thousands of beautiful trees down, some on houses. Nicholas Sparks lives about 5 miles from us, on a big river, and his neighbors are suffering badly. We drove through that neighborhood today. Our home and we are OK, but I continue to have some PFSD (post Florence stress disorder). We came within feet of flooding our yard and house the other night. It was sunny and over 90 degrees here today, and the mold and misery continue. 80% have power back now, but I sure feel sorry for those who don't.
