I slept hard yesterday. I fell asleep early, just woke up. Checked my email, tractor supply is talking about chick days; inspired a question. Despite fencing, and having a dog, and being in town, a fox keeps getting my sisters chickens. Anyone have any methods to repel fox’s and skunks?

I have to laugh, it’s 38, weather app says low of 55. But we might get rain! For like three days! Haven’t found that app to be very accurate, on predicting rain, precipitation. It’s heavy clouded outside. If it rains today, I’ll be out putting my bulbs where they can get watered, putting out buckets and containers to catch rain, and using it to top off aquarium, pond, and wash with.
Blackwell was in the news last year or so for how bad city water is, so I haven’t added any of the water from town to my aquarium. I’d sooner add pond water. We need several days of slow rain to soak into the ground. I’m worried that’s the problem with the well, low water level.

We've had a very mild winter so far, until now. I've had my pump running for a month, now I'm a bit worried about Ice blockages in my stream, largely emptying my pond. It has happened before. The coldest so far were a couple nights around 8 F, the last couple weeks have been nights in the 20s and 30s with days up in the low 60s. Last year we had over 2' of snow on the ground and temps were half of those. They say it will be snowing for the next couple days and temps will dip to 0 on Monday night. This is closer to normal, but we have gotten really spoiled!

@JamieB I had chickens before I moved to my current house. Saw red fox several evenings a week while I was slowing moving stuff to the new place, so opted to sell the chickens. If there are fox, you need to have something to deter them from digging in under the fence. I used electric wire about 4-6" above the ground on the perimeter. The worst part about foxes is if they get into a chicken coop, the excitement of the chickens causes them to usually kill all the chickens, and only eat or take with them 1 or 2. I couldn't handle that type of "murder", so sold my chickens and never got any more. I could never have my free roaming during the day, because I had Golden Retrievers at the time, who would have loved nothing more than to chase them. LOL
Going up to mid 40's today, but continuing to go up in temp overnight, with rain moving in (yay ... my newly dug out pasture pond still needs about 3' of water!), for next 2 days. I put my rain gauge out, since temps will be well above freezing.

She’s lost about half her flock over the winter. She lets them free roam during the day, and closes them up at night. The fox’s use the railway to travel, and it’s just half a block away from her, so I think once she is ready, I’ll be going out to do the heavy work. Her necks messed up, she can’t do a lot of digging on her own , so I expect I’ll be helping

I want to go work on the flower bulbs again, but it’s windy big time outside. I’ll find out in a bit if it’s warm as they say it’s supposed to be. Reluctant to go out today, I’m feeling terribly lazy, but I want to get the flower bulbs all dug up.

Holy crap. I’m going to have to seriously overcrowd all the containers with bulbs, to fit them in. Some of these are huge, and some have divided so that they are stacked on others. I’m seeing plants popping up that I’d swear weren’t there last year, so burning the grass is a good thing. I found a big worm, 7-8” not stretching out, put him in a pot of compost. It’s chilly out, had to come in and warm up.

Lol, it all depends on where you’re looking at. This piece in Oklahoma is valued at 38,000, 10 acres, not in the best of shape (yet!) I’d say find a place down this way, if you are serious about moving, but the only places I’ve seen for sale are farm land or houses in town. No, I take that back, there a house not far from us, dirt road, big house, the yard needs lot of work. It has the frames for green houses, I’d love to buy just part of one. Way too big to buy a whole one unless I want to cover a lot of yard.

Wowser and double Wowser!!! We woke up to a ton of snow this morning. I freaked out when I saw my pond net. It was pushed all the way down to the water level and ripped apart on some of it. Had to use S hooks to hold it back together for now. That snow was darn wet and heavy! They said we might get up to an inch last night. Boy were they off buy about 6"!

On another note...................I now found out who my exact birth father was. DNA match of a 1st cousin popped up in my ancestry matches. I talked w/her on the phone last night. You guys don't know how long I have been searching for this. I am so thankful that my prayers have been finally answered. Turns out she is really my niece and not a 1st cousin. Ancestry.com does not always get things exact in that area. They call everyone cousins, lol!
And to top it off her and her family live here near me!
