It is 17F here this morning, way colder with windchill. This is very rare weather for us. And it is lasting for so long. My new little pond, about 500 gal. is now frozen over except for an opening at the waterfall. No fish in it yet. It has been many years since my pond had ice on it. Pic later on.
Just took a few pics of this very rare event for us. Not supposed to get this cold for this long.

Hello Jack Frost
Been watching the temperatures down south and
Way too cold! If it’s diesel, there’s an additive to keep it from gelling, and most motors have a plug in to warm the engine itself.
It was gas, hubby plugged it in but was so cold took forever to warm up. It started finally after a few hours of plugging in.

Barb your pond looks pretty even with the little ice. Hopefully it will warm up for you soon!

Hopefully warm weather comes soon! Of your fish are small and pond has lots of water still left under ice, you should be ok.
I had to drag frozen garden hose into house and defrost, then ran it out to ponds and topped off pond. Water may have been displaced by ice.

no above freezing temps for a bit.

Grab a hose and a small 158gph fountain pump from harbor freight this am. melted a bigger hole in the ice this am and added more water to just below the ice line. had 1' tick ice then about a 1' drop of air till water. ran the hot water over the is as to melt it and not shock the watr to much. will be getting the pump in later on.

My main pump some how got disconnected from the hose to the bog. and my small pump running the venturi bubbler when i tried to pull it out the hose to the bubbler snapped pretty sure that hose is in the ice as it was a shallow hose.

time will tell if things lived

Good Job!!
Bypass the bog if it's frozen. That's probably why the main hose became dislocated. I have had to run hot water to ponds on many occasions during extreme winters. Now I keep hose handy in basement so I can use at a moment's notice. Don't forget to declor the water as usual. Fish should be ok.

Not looking forward to Thursday or Friday at work going to be a high in the teens with 40 mph winds. Only took about an hour or so to get all the equipment running and warmed up this morning then breaking ice to move equipment around. On the plus side it will be above freezing tomorrow and sunny, so a slight reprieve.

And this is why I’m happy to be living further south. I miss the snow, but I’m not happy about cold. If I moved anywhere colder, I’d have to be rich so I could stay inside from the time the temps are under 50 to over 50.

1F worried about our bees, nothing we can do, but sure worried about them. We have never had a winter this cold since we started.

Not worried about the ponds they will do just fine.

We've been well below average for a long time now, days and days. We're up to 14°F, which is a small improvement. I see 30's in the forecast for Sunday and Monday.

Still no significant snow in the forecast. Very weird that we haven't even had a 2" snowfall yet. I typically wait for 3" or more before I scatter my seeds out in the native garden but I may not be able to wait for snow if we don't get some soon.
