I am just so glad we are having this perfect weather, doing lots of hole digging, moving plants, gravel spreading, pond building, still need to groom the lilies for the winter, but they are still blooming. Good weather sure makes it easier to work outside all day. I need about a week and a half to get all finished, then it can snow!

82 on wednesday, unreal for end of october.
Hey, Addy, do you get into your ponds to groom lilies for the winter, or do it from the edge? Just wondering if you're out there in a wetsuit this time of year. :) Mine are all close enough to the side that I can reach them, except the 3 I moved to the inside wall of the goldfish pond ... still trying to figure out how to get to them without getting into the pond. Pretty sure I'm going to have to don a wetsuit and get IN there! Probably do the best job that way anyhow ... and maybe catch a few more goldfish in the koi pond while I'm at it!

I wade into the pond. If it is too cold to go in bare legged, I have some (huge) waders. A neighbor gave them to me, they don't fit well but they work.

If your lilies are in pots, get a long stick/pole and stick it into the pot and drag it to where you can reach it.

Hey Sissy, I brought my banana trees inside, the green one is hardy, but I never planted it yet, and the red/green one is tropical, so figured bring them both inside. My question is this: Both have lots of brown on their leaves. At first I thought it was because of the winds, whipping them around, damaging them. However, they are all putting on new leaves, and they are opening with brown spots on the edges. I'm wondering if I fertilized them too much. Do you know if that could be the problem? I think I put some fertilizer stakes in there, and probably was too much. The small elephant ears that are in the one pot are doing just fine, though ... as long as I can keep my cats from laying on them!
DISH is down again this evening. Come on!!!! How crazy is this? I had 1/4" rain, no high winds, some thunder and so forth earlier, but not even local channels, and I don't have the antenna hooked up. Good thing I'm not looking forward to watching the debate, although I was actually going to watch it this evening! Guess not!
Had a great time at Covered Bridge Festival. Got a real treasure ... this heron! I've looked since last summer for one, never found one I liked, and I absolute LOVE this guy! Very heavy, almost like cast iron, pretty sure he won't topple in the winds. Will keep him inside for the winter, but he's out by the Karly Rose grass right now, and looking GREAT!!!

My sister and I had a great time riding, as well as my neighbor girl that came along with us. Fall colors were at their peak! First pic is me on my Paint mare, Sydney. Second pic is my sister on my mule, Clyde.

Warm temps here today, little bit of rain, cloudy most of the day, but still 66 degrees this evening!

Frosted more that a few times here, and hard too! Racked lots of leaves and made a fire to stay warm this afternoon and found leaves stuck in ICE in the bucket today! Temperature currently 38 degrees and falling. Pond surface water temperature 41 degrees. Snow forcast for next two days, starting late tonight.....

 Snow. We have about 5 1/2 inches and its still coming down steady. I cleaned out my pond Sunday and cut back my lilies and some of them still had buds coming up and new leaves. I put them on the bottom of the pond and then pulled out most of the other plants that I had in the pond. I did leave a few to see if they would make it thru the winter. I was going to shut down the waterfall but because I had stirred the pond up decided to leave it running for at least a day to clear it up. Then I was going to shut it down tonight but since bottom of pond was still 42 decided to put it off another day or two. Next week forcast looks like higher 40's and rain showers so hoping the snow goes away! Not ready for winter yet.

Your weather thingy says it's 46 right now, Addy, wait til this warm front gets to you. It's 61 here, could have had windows open last night, but that is going to change by Friday. Have to enjoy it while I can! Pond temp went up to 57 yesterday and day before, too, so let my sister feed the fish yesterday a.m. before she left for home ... WI.
