I saw a case of loggers going across the property line before. Of course the loggers just say that they didn't know where the line was, although the owner of the logging company is ALWAYS responsible to know where it is. In the end, the homeowner is the big loser. Doesn't matter if they are ordered to pay for the value of the wood. We all know that losing trees is far worse than the cost of the tree. It's something living that has been killed, and the years it takes to replace them is beyond any payment. What they did to Sissy's property was not even logging, it was demolishing to the worst degree! I own 30 acres that the former owner allowed another neighbor to come cut wood off of. He literally cut everything that was 6" around or more! EVERYTHING! It's all young timber now, and that was 20 years ago, too. Good loggers will take nothing but mature trees that are worth logging. My dad had his property logged, and did his homework before hiring them. He marked all the trees for them to take (they went along and showed him which ones they wanted) and also marked both up high, 2 sides, AND at the base 2 sides, the ones that were NOT allowed to be taken. The logger instructed him to do this. That's a good logger! Property should be logged every so many years, to allow the smaller trees to mature and harvest the larger trees. But, when loggers get bad names like the guy did to you, Sissy, that makes it difficult for property owners to allow logging. And, some loggers will drag the tree tops so they will be easy to cut up for firewood, and others will leave a holy mess in the woods. All depends on who you get to do the logging. More money in your pocket is not always the best one to choose!
