I wondered the same thing, Tmann. They look like they were planted in a row, so maybe someone decided they didn't want them anymore or something. JW???

I am originally from a very rural area of South Alabama. There are many commerically grown pine forests. The trees in these forests are planted in perfect rows to facilitate harvesting. I can't recall the exact type of pine. These pines grow fact, strong and tall. Gratefully, the land owners practice excellent conservation practions. Seemingly, the clear cut pine forests are replanted in a timely manner. Although I left Alabama for good in 1972, return visits gave me many opportunities to see these forests in various stages.

Hubby home and resting nicely in bed, Poppy had to snuggle him for a while. I think he feels better now that he is home. When I drove up to Calgary this morning to get him, I found him in his room with the door closed, resting in a chair. He is shy of revealing his face due to the surgery. I think he slept in the chair for most of the two weeks cause he said the hospital bed was uncomfortable. He slept for a while on the couch early this evening, then went to bed. It took him a while to get up on the bed cause of the cast on leg, skin graft on thigh, big chunk of skin missing from arm too. They had to take pieces of bone from leg, large chunk of skin from thigh and arm to rebuild upper lip, mouth and cheek from the cancer. He looks much better now and new upper lip does not look too bad now that the stitches are out and the swelling has gone down lots. I'm just happy that they got all the cancer and that he has not needed tobacco or asked for any. Got to get him healthy and happy, cause he's a tad bit cranky cause of all the trama he had. Going to try to make him feel better, feed him healthy, and love him lots, cause that's all I can do.... happy to just have him home now! :) :)

Oh so nice that your hubby is home sweet home now! He will get to feeling better w/ you waiting on him hand and foot.

Guys we are chopping these trees down cuz the guy who planted them 25 years ago doesn't want them there anymore except for 1 row. The other 2 rows are coming down cuz he wants to be able to see who's coming up the road to his house and also to view the mountain. If you let the pine sit for a long time you can burn it.

Here is the words from a guy on a firewood site:
First of all, pine does not cause creosote build-up. It's a common misconception that I hear all the time. What causes excessive creosote build-up is wet wood and inefficient burning fires. There are some areas in the world where pine is the most common firewood species. Trust me, as long as pine is seasoned properly, it won't give you any creosote problems.

  1. 1 Before drying, know the properties of your wood. The duration of seasoning depends on the wood and for deciduous trees, when the tree was felled. The sap of deciduous trees moves to the roots in the winter, so such trees felled in winter have a much lower moisture content to begin with, and so will be seasoned more quickly. In general, pine and other softwoods require around 6 to 12 months to season, while hardwoods such as oak require a year to 2 years.[sup][1][/sup] However, this rule of thumb has exceptions, so knowing the tree type and its water content is important.

I am digging a hole for a propane tank, we have a ventless small propane stove in the living room. Been running it off the bbq tanks, got a good deal on a 500 gallon underground tank. I have two weeks to trench for the line, and dig a 12x8x5 hole for the tank. geez would make a good pond. Also digging out the front yard 1000 gallon stock tank (another pond down the road) expanding our drive for the cars my honey works on, parking space lol

We have a wood burner but it is in the basement, takes a lot of heat to warm the upstairs.

Long story short, hope our nice weather holds for just a while. It is going to be in the high 60 low 70 all next week, rain just on monday.

Hubby said he had good sleep and the swelling in his legs really going down now. He said he feels better now, his legs were quite swollen before. He said it's good to be home, had a good stretch on the bed. Have to work a short shift this morning, then I will rush home and feed hubby some nice soup. got a new recipe for Pumpkin Coconut soup, made with coconut milk, going to make some up after work today!

This morning 51. Last couple of nights its been in the 50's, really liking the warmer nights. Tomorrow high 67 and cloudy. This week day time highs from 53 to 62 with rain showers the beginning of week and sunny, cloudy the end of week.

We bought a 34' true north sailboat back at the end of June and it should be here tomorrow sometime. It is coming from Port Townsend Wa. and I can't wait to see it. I have only seen pictures of it but my hubby went over and checked it out before we bought it. Excited!!!!!!!!!!!! Now the big question is are we going to put it on the east coast or the west coast? I want the east coast and he wants the west coast.

OMG, MT, what fun that boat will be! Today, here, it is so windy, I would worry where you are going to store it until spring. Bet you have a nice place for it inside.
Very warm yesterday, but cloudy and 70's. I don't think it got below 65 last night, but today high only to be about 70. It is 66 right now and winds from the south. Sun just came out, yippee! Got some rain last night, but I slept right through it. Could have opened windows, but neighbors had loud music on, and not my type, darn it. LOL
Going to be doing some "spider control" in my house today, after seeing this sucker last night strutting right in front of me in the living room! He was just over 2" toe to toe. Yuck yuck yuck! I've done my best to be nice to spiders, but I'm sorry, not going to catch these suckers and give them another chance outside. Nope no way no can do!!!

glad hubby is home colleen and guessing the puppies are really happy daddy is home .It will take awhile to heal but at least so far all sounds good and hoping it all stays good and that he will heal fast and life will get back to normal .They forrested my woods without permission and got a fine .They saw the stakes and signs but still kept going until I came home and stopped them .I knew my neighbors sold there trees off but thought since the signs were up and big yellow and orange stakes were in the ground all around my property I just figured they would stop .All the signs say posted and got them from the county and had to pay for them .But guess that did not matter to these guys .

It was a noisy night & early morning for a good chunk of North Texas…with heavy thunderstorms that produced lots of lightning and thunder. Heavy rain all through the night. Nice, cool, fresh air this morning. So nice in fact I have the back door open to enjoy the breeze. I let our cat Sunny out this morning. Last saw her walking all around the pond. She especially likes to walk on the stones right by the waters edge. :)

I have my windows open, too, Lou. Fresh air is so wonderful! Steady temps here around 70 and very windy. Airing out the house is a wonderful thing, especially since I just got done spraying with bug spray. Never usually even smell it, but maybe this is the first time I've sprayed and then stayed inside. Thinking I need to go outside and mess around for a while. :)
Colleen, I'm soooo happy your hubby is home and your family is all back together again. Bet is is thrilled to be back in his own bed again. Hospitals can be life savers, but they are not a place most people want to stay any longer than absolutely necessary!
When we had a horse (not trying to compare your hubby to our horse, though ...) that had to have colic surgery, he had major complications, in ICU for 18 of his 19 days at the University Hospital. They finally sent him home saying, "He can't get any worse, and he's not getting better here." He had a relapse the first night, got down and could not stand, but within 2 days he was on the mend. He definitely got better at home. He was 27 this year.

No windows open here.........wind is blowing and rain coming down off and on. At least the burn ban is now over and we can burn outside again. Have a pile of brush that needs to be gone.

Colleen so glad to hear John is doing so much better at home now. Things will be good for his future, just hope he never smokes again! We are all pulling for him to be strong!

Sissy how will they remedy what they did to your property? That happened to us once w/ them pulling out plants from our wooded property we used to live on. They ended up having to pay us for all the ferns, oregon grape etc. that they stole from us to put on their property. They didn't cut down trees tho. That would have made my blood boil if they'd done that! My dog caught them and let me know so he did good.

I saw a case of loggers going across the property line before. Of course the loggers just say that they didn't know where the line was, although the owner of the logging company is ALWAYS responsible to know where it is. In the end, the homeowner is the big loser. Doesn't matter if they are ordered to pay for the value of the wood. We all know that losing trees is far worse than the cost of the tree. It's something living that has been killed, and the years it takes to replace them is beyond any payment. What they did to Sissy's property was not even logging, it was demolishing to the worst degree! I own 30 acres that the former owner allowed another neighbor to come cut wood off of. He literally cut everything that was 6" around or more! EVERYTHING! It's all young timber now, and that was 20 years ago, too. Good loggers will take nothing but mature trees that are worth logging. My dad had his property logged, and did his homework before hiring them. He marked all the trees for them to take (they went along and showed him which ones they wanted) and also marked both up high, 2 sides, AND at the base 2 sides, the ones that were NOT allowed to be taken. The logger instructed him to do this. That's a good logger! Property should be logged every so many years, to allow the smaller trees to mature and harvest the larger trees. But, when loggers get bad names like the guy did to you, Sissy, that makes it difficult for property owners to allow logging. And, some loggers will drag the tree tops so they will be easy to cut up for firewood, and others will leave a holy mess in the woods. All depends on who you get to do the logging. More money in your pocket is not always the best one to choose!

Kinda like the 400 trees they cut down to move the shuttle through the streets of LA. Have mixed feelings on that decision..

Nice temps in the mid to low 70s for most of the day. Winds were from the south as country stated. Now the temp has dropped and the wind is out of the North west now.
