snow coming today in Virginia . They can't even get weather here right on the news . Listened to 4 stations here and one said 1 to 2 inchs another one said 2 to 3 inchs another said another said 3 to 4 inchs and yet another said it is 18 degrees here but it is 32 degrees at 7 am and they are saying 3 to 5 inchs . my weather station out side said it is 34 with snow starting around 12 and it will be light and fluffy . I think my weather station outside is better than the news around here JW I wish I had help but I got it done and cut down some more of the ice downed trees and cut them up for my brother in law to pick up for his camping trips . They got a bassenthound 9 months ago and what a devil he is

Wish we would get some more snow but chances are slim on that as Spring gets closer and closer. All our weather here is just a guessing game and my gauges out on our porch always say lower temps than what they say. Feels good here now in the 50's for our highs tho even if it does come w/the rain.
We are still using just firewood to heat our home. Have plenty right now but it goes fast in those low temps.

I thought I would branch out from @CountryEscape 's "What is your weather like ... today" topic and ask you: What does your pond look like ... Today?

As we all know, ponds go through many changes throughout the year, some large, some small; some good, some bad. From snow melting, to plants growing; From leaves falling, to the first snowfall. I thought this would be a great way to share how your pond looks on any given day in comparison to the last time you shared, which could be be as recent as yesterday, last week, or last month, depending on how frequently you'd like to share. It would be an nice way to see how all of our ponds change throughout the year, and what they look like on any given day.

Here's how my pond looks today:

Snow is slowly melting, but the pond is still frozen solid.

My winter pond as of yesterday. I have a ton of plants in the veggie filter above, and marginals galore in the pond itself that are dormant as of yet. Last week On Monday, due to a running battle with a furry demolition crew comprised of raccons and possums, I had a local landscaper bring several dozens of large stones to line the perimeter of my pond. For the past 4 years the varmints have little by little dismantled the shoreline by rolling the river stoneinto the water to the point that the flagstone area where my bench sits was inches away from being undermined and potentially causing a catastrophic collapse into the drink. So before my nightmare could come true, l had this poor gentleman raking a ton of fist-sized river stones from out of the water back onto the shore all the way around the 17’ x 25’ pond perimeter to cover the exposed liner and underlayment that was such an eyesore. He then placed the new stones around the entire circumference of the pond, incorporating stones that were part of the original build. The new stones were from the same quarry where the original stones were sourced, so they matched EXACTLY. I thought he did a wonderful job, and now I hope the midnight destroyers’ artificial erosion process has been slowed down considerably with a line of one-man rocks between them and the water!

You should set up a camera out there to see what they come up w/next! If you ever put fish in there they will eliminate them if you don't put up a net w/a fence around it too. I had no choice but to do that as I was fighting them and the heron.

Looks like he does this for a living I love that the rocks are not long end to long end and in a line . I see a few sticking out into the pond and no straight edges. kudos to your repair man. You should give the name of the company so others in your area know who might do a nice job for them. Like me my guy Scott Janko was the bomb! unbelievably talented and creative !! I'd hire him again and again.

J. w- l’m sorry to hear about your struggles with the critters. I know what a battle that is! I’ve had a couple of hundred goldfish and minnows of different species in the pond for a few years. I don’t think l lose too many fish to the raccoons- when they come around the fish stay in the deeper part of the pond in the many caves and tunnels that l designed and were incorporated when the pond was built. The fish can also get back into a huge hiding area under the waterfall. The raccoons are like little kids hopped up on sugar and they aren’t stealthy at all, lol. Like you, I also have a pesky heron. He (she?) visits occasionally and lS stealthy, and persistent, and very patient…… Some time ago l was on a pond site (l think it was a British pond maintenance company site) and l read that if you string a rope high enough up across the flight path leading into and especially out of the pond area it spooks the heron because it impedes a quick getaway. They’re very wary and any little glimpse they catch of me through the windows inside the house will cause them to take off. When l catch them out there l creep up to the front door and bust out of the storm door with a maximum of arm waving and yelling and door banging and they explode into the air in an utter panic, but darn it they always come back, lol. I know that l can run a string around the perimeter of the pond high enough so they can’t step over it or limbo under it. But l hesitate to implement that plan because l’m a clumsy old lady and l’m afraid l’ll forget it’s there and trip and fall and clonk my noggin on a rock and kill myself. 🤕 Anyway, l have some paracord l’m going to run from my front porch support pole to 3 different trees in the front yard that ring the pond, and then back to the front porch. The herons will be migrating back into the area in a few weeks, so l’d better get moving on that. Cross your fingers for me and l’ll cross mine for you….. 🤞🏻🤞🏻

love your pond . I could never have anything like that . I had 3 cows from nieghbors farm yesterday . I caught them drinking out of the preformed pond by my pond . I wish i had gotten pics but i was to busy trying to herd them back and make sure they did not fall in the little snow we had and make sure they did not get hit by any vehicles as i crossed them . I called Marty and told him where to meet his girlfriends coming home . some one cut the fence . His men got them in and started to repair the fence . I see you made a live edge bench by your pond .

We never know who built the pond unless the person building the pond shows it step by step . I did make some videos of my pond build buty with the way youtube is these days I had to make it private .. I did my own because it was cheaper and i wanted to look down on it from my front porch . I did not want to make it natural . Believe me i have had enough issues with my pond alsready /. Yesterday it wasd cows escaped from my neighbors farm and before that it was a horse not once but twice and then it was differnt dogs since they are allowed to run loose here and lets not forget all the deer who visit me . I can say my 2 stray cats ignore the pond . I guess if you have the money why not get it built for you . I never bothered to comment on who might or might not have built ponds . I could care less . i just like to look at the ponds to get maybe an idea or 2
