While pulling the hornwort, one of my few surviving frogs showed up, a tiny one. I spooked the spider so it would not grab the frog.

I'm glad you stated that the frog was tiny cuz at first glance I thought, Man what a huge spider!

I believe fishing spiders are the largest species of "true spider" in the US. They are massive and would scare any arachnophobe out of their mind. Despite their intimidating appearance, they're docile and their venom is not considered dangerous to people. Here's a video on these creatures.

Another spider I came across while working the pond With her egg case.

Yesterday, full of hornwort, lilies, iris...............

Later hornwort pulled, two foot high pile, anti snake measures, I tossed a bunch of anacharis back in so the fish would have it for snacks later.

Today, 3 days left before I can't work in the pond until the end of OCT(left arm surgery) so decided go for it, warmish, 75, pulled the lilies, pulled iris, cut back pond plants. Later strip the bog. By the end of OCT we could be darn cold and the water for sure will be colder than 72f.

My work pants..................called mucking the pond, soaking wet. Only slipped 4 times, managed to keep head out of the water lol.
Three lilies jumped their pots, a lot of work to pull them. I have some HUGE TUBERS need to decide what to do with them. The pot jumpers. Still have the two smaller ponds, the 1000 gallon and the hot tub pond to groom. Those are easy................

Looks like you are ready for winter @addy1 . Better to do all the tidying when the weather is warm than when it is freezing! Good luck on your surgery.

Sort of! This was just one thing that needed to be done. But a big thing. I did not do fertilizing or new litter, going to tackle in the spring. My goal was to get it done, new litter, fertilizer would be just too much.

Good luck with the left arm surgery.
Thanks, my right arm was pretty painless.

But my left is the wrist I broke this year, it might complain more. But because I broke my wrist is the reason for the surgery. Discovered I had bad carpal tunnel both arms, and trapped nerves in the elbows. Doc said my broken wrist was the best thing I could have done. Without treatment carpal will remove the use of your hands as it gets worse.

And he is one hunk of a doctor, easy on the eyes! lol

It took a lot of time pulling lilies, hornwort etc. I had to save all the critters I saw, tons of trapdoor snails, all sizes, tads, worms, neat looking squiggly things. I worked in one area as the snails fell off they got tossed back into the pond. Then searching the ground for missed snails.

lol no kidding! And a very nice down to earth doc!

BTW I was thrilled to see fry here and there, from 1/2 inch to a few inches. They were not happy losing their hornwort forest, but still have iris, the anacharis I tossed in and hornwort here and there. Just not the forest they did have.

The snake may stay away for a bit, the pond has totally changed, traps still empty. No sightings so far, but we don't watch 24/7
