Planted some Creeping Jenny in the rain gutter planter. Their moisture and sunlight and popularity amongst water gardeners made them an easy choice.

I also planted some cattails in the end of the pond near the waterfall. Now I’ve grown cattails for several years and am aware of their invasive nature and their liner puncturing roots. Over the years I’ve learned how to grow them without causing problems to the pond.

I also added a Tetra Pond color changing LED ring to the fountain to enhance the fountain at night. I’ll post another picture of the lights when it gets dark.

The temperature has been bouncing between 40 and 55 degrees for what seems like weeks here so the pond hasn't really woken up yet, but yesterday was sunny enough for the fish to come up and eat a bit. About a week and a half ago some toads laid eggs in the pond but we've had snow since then so I don't know if I should expect them to hatch. Not sure how much longer to give them before I scoop 'em out.

If the eggs are under water & didn't actually freeze in ice, they should be OK. It seems the cooler the water, the longer they take to hatch, so I'd vote 'be patient'. Look closely at them & see if the black dot in the middle is starting to elongate - if so, they're doing fine.

Hmm the egg strings are already covered in string algae preventing me from seeing the back dots so that might be a bad sign in itself. This coming Friday will be two weeks since I first noticed them so I'll at least leave them until then.

I had stings of eggs everywhere, then we dropped to 26f one night, 28f the next night, heavy frost. The lil tads are hatching. I am seeing tads now, tiny ones. Give them time.

Bought 3 more yards of 1 " native river jack . Trust me the energy was left out at the pond. Its been raining all day and I couldn't get close to the pond so it was 5 gallon bucks hauling the stone back to the upper pond. At least it looks good. oh but how I feel it.
