A bit confused, but in reference to the above, I received an email and alert. This was for Maria, correct? I will get the hang of this shortly, lol ...

Yes, You replied to me (Maria) and when I replied back to you the email notification was sent telling you there was a new reply to a thread you are participating in.

It's confusing at first but you will get more comfortable with how things work the mire you are on the forum.

Yikes !!! 40watts ... You make me want to put my head in the sand ...hahaha ... I know the unit. Where do you put it, before the falls?
I am in zone 6b we froze hard last year, just used a pond breather, the fish did fine. The ice was around 12 inches thick.

Maria - There are 2 settings I'd like to change. One would be receiving an email from my own post. I'd love to turn that off and just be emailed by responses. The other ... Is there a setting to see who is online like a bar on the side? Did you want to send a screen shot? or you might not believe this but I built my kids computers and have been into computers since '85 ( Commodore 64 ) ... I just find some ambiguity on some of the setting as to how they are worded. I see the email settings in preferences. Just not sure which would shut that one down. Thx

Just make sure all the send emails are not checked. I did that and the emails stopped. I get to many emails without adding ones from here..

wow lots of info! My head hurts lol.

I did water change once since I build my pond in April. I've a problem with string algae and the water change and I used the phosphate control and I got a month of no string algea... now with the leaves decomposing in my pond I'm having string algea problem again but I'm not going to do another water change until there's no more leaves on that tree and I can clean most of the leaves out

I plan to do water change twice a year, one just after all the leaves and one in spring. It wont be too drastic, probably around 40-50%.

Quite drastic. Why do you do so few water changes? What size is your pond and how many fish do you have?
Filtration?

barryian, do you use water changes as a means of supplementing your filtration?
Water changes will dilute a pollutant, but otherwise, why would you do them?
You can upset your fish's osmotic balance, causing them stress by doing a water change.
