I would consider it tropical, in the regards that we have to bring ours in ... I honestly would not have bought this plant if I knew it would get so big AND had to come in. It's a pretty plant yes, but if HE has to bring in big heavy pots, I think I would prefer to just stick with the few Taro plants. We need HARDY plants (other than water lilies now LOL), not more tropicals.

As to family ... 6 hours may still be too close for some LOL. I have a daughter that sounds like your sister LOL.

I am the youngest, and all my sisters and we where all born very close together, but they like to boss me around and I don't let them. They drive me insane sometimes, the two that live in town. You would not believe how weird they are sometimes, the one sister who is two years older is a hard core raw vegan and she and her older daughter drink their own "mid stream pee" and claims it has medicinal value! She thinks she has found the "fountain of youth! Ha ha ha They were also grinding up rocks and eating them too! I am sure they are eating bugs by now!! I have not see her for a couple years as I can't hardly stand to listen to her talk. Her and my other sister that live in town were hard core alcholics for years, both have now quit drinking, and have a horrible past life that they would like to forget.... The "pee" sister has been trying to talk with me on Facebook, I try to be nice, but don't want to get caught up in their "drama" and they stress me out with their wild ideas!!

Cape last year I dug it up and raised it up so we'll see if it does any better this year.

I never had any brothers and sis's while growing up. Would have loved to. Was adopted at 11months old and found my half sister when I was about 21 or 22. She is 4 yrs younger than me and I love her to death. She is moving up here in about a month to stay w/ us while she looks for a place to live here. I'm so happy to have her closer to me! I'm holding her new baby boy, my nephew. She started her family late and my kids were grown adults by then.

Aww JW, you look very much like sisters, too. How fun is that?!
Colleen, seriously, your sister and her daughter drink their pee????? YIKES!!!! Now, I know that if I was dying of dehydration, I would do that, but under no circumstances would I choose to do that. Yuck yuck yuck!!!
Cape, you're right, 6 hours may be too close. I posted on my FB tonight, "I'm glad I 'come from a little bitty home grown small town'". It's from words in a country song, but it fits me to a "T"! I love to visit the city, stay even for a couple of days, but it's not for me. Maybe someday, but not right now. I enjoy my peace and quiet. Now, if I can just grow some trees so the birds will come visit more often. I do have my beloved barn swallows, though, so I'm good on my bird "fix".

Yes I am telling the truth, my sister and her older daughter drink their pee, and they tried to tell me I should drink my pee! She even got a book off the internet that claims there is some medicinal value, and I was horrified. She and her older daughter are very "excentric" for sure! The younger daughter has nothing to do with their madness, and can you blame her?
My sister's younger daughter had a toothace a couple years back and they discovered that she had a tooth cavity that needed to be fixed. They have full dental insurance with their dad's company, but my sister told her that the tooth cavity would go away if she ate only raw vegan and refused to take her to have her tooth fixed! Not sure what happened, we had a big fight a couple years ago and I told my sister she was nuts!

To this day my hubby still makes jokes about my "pissed" off sister!

Lilies are coming to the surface, so definitely planning to pull the rest of the pots and separate them this weekend. The largest Georgia Peach pot, which is in the koi pond, and when the pond drained down, the top 5" of the pot was out of the water in 32 degrees weather that night, did not sprout. Pretty sure it should have by now if it wasn't dead. Sooo bummed! Good thing I kept 2 from the other pots, so that is fine. Just upset because I can't share any more of them. Have a list of people who want dwarf cattails (get 3-4' tall), water parsley, penny wart. I also have a a bunch of hostas that need to be divided. Most of them are green leaves, but they have a beautiful spike of flowers that lasts a long time. I also have sedum (tall and spreading varieties) that I would share, oh and the Karly Rose grass is going to be moved, and there will be lots of little starts of that as well! I have to look back on my PM's and see because I think I offered the grass last fall and some asked for it after I figured it was too late to separate and send.
Anyhow, pond went from 60 degrees 3 weeks ago before I left for AZ, to 50 when I returned last Sunday, and now is at 45 degrees. The fish were staying low but this morning up at the top so must be enjoying the sunshine, and water on top is likely warmer than at the bottom.

There is the "pond guy" who has this pet store in town with a huge pond at his home (10 thousand gallons) and he said that he never used a heater this year with his new pond, just used air pump. I asked how his fish were ...... he said he has not seen them yet .... not a good sign I thought to myself! We shall see, I will bug him again next time I see him at the store and ask again.

When talking winter, 10,000 gallons really isnt all that big ... we're at 9000 between the two ... in theory, his fish should have had an easier winter than yours did ... so if he isnt seeing fish yet, I would be worried. We have all seen YOUR fish .... the little camera hogs sneak into all of your pictures LOL.

I like to see all my fish and even in the winter I can usually see them threw the open pockets, but for goodness sake this is close to the end of April, and I would be very worried if people cannot see their fish yet. So I told the guy that people on a fish forum who have tried that method of just a bubbler this far north have not faired too well. I know of other people that he has helped winter their pond, one lady in particular, she lost all her fish last winter with his advice. I never told him that, cause he gives me 10 percent off when I buy stuff at his store. This guy is still young and in business, but he will learn quick. The thing is his fish are really really big and prior years with his old pond he used a heater. I would hate to see them all dead and what a mess that would be!

On another note, I have had a mild headache the last couple days, gone now, but the wild dreams that I have been having!! This afternoon after work I had a little nap and dreamt that I had a water dingy filled with helium, and was sailing in the air over the city!! Wild dreams are somehow refreshing! :)

I would be worried if that guy was me and I couldn't see my fish by now! That would be a horrific scene if they are all dead under there! How horrible! He will learn the hard way I guess.

Colleen, can just see you floating around up there now! I love weird dreams, the weirder the better and sometimes it would be fun to be able to live in some of them for awhile.

I always have the most vivid dreams when I wake up, and then fall asleep for a short time before waking again. It's fun, and I love to talk about them immediately, or I forget them totally. Some are pretty wild, but usually, not always, I can fit all the pieces together why I dreamed what I dreamed. In other words, maybe something I saw on tv the night before, or something someone said to me, or something I was thinking about in the last day or two. Seems my brain doesn't go back past a day or two for my dreams. And, every now and then, I have no idea why I dreamed it. Like you, Colleen, how could you piece that one together with daily life? Did you use helium at work that day? LOL

While mowing after work this evening, I spotted these irises blooming wildly, with what was left of the bunch of red tulips behind them. What beauty! These irises are dwarf, only about 14" tall including the flowers. The taller irises behind them and to the side (not in the pic) have bulging buds on them, so will be watching for them to bloom soon, too. Then, need to figure out where to move them so their beauty is not wasted on the side of the house.
