Countryescape, I have two low voltage lights on my pond at night. It definitely makes it nicer looking because we can see the pond from the house at night. The lights attack bugs for my fish and frog to eat so I think it has a two fold advantage. I tried one in my water when I first built the pond but with all the plants and the way things get moved around it didn't always work out so good. Now I just stick to the two low voltage floods outside the pond pointing in.

he even gets a cheerio or two every now and then when I throw some in for the fish. never grabs them off the water always when they are in the air. lol

That would be fun to watch! I have not seen any bullfrogs here, a lot of the little green ones, and some grayish frogs.

fishin I posted those pictures you asked for in my build btw..........

I use led lights all around my property less expensive and none of the heat .Even my in pond lights are led ,no heat .I have what I cl winter lights and they are the in pond lights that are the regular ones and give off heat so help warm up the pond in the winter ,But summer it is better with led ones .The led 's are a lot brighter also .than the regular lights .And best off they have come down to the same price as regular pond lights .I got mine on e-bay for 33 dollars and free shipping

Fishin and ComeKeith, I'm so glad both of you posted about the in-pond lights not working as well as out of the pond. Sissy, sounds like yours do fine, though, so not sure what I will do. The floods were on last night, but tonight they should stay on all day, if the sun comes out today to charge them that is. The cheerios getting snatched from the air by your frog, Fishin, sounds very cool! That's the kind of action I want to see! I guess I don't have to worry about the fish jumping to get bugs, and ending up outside of the pond, right? I already had a new koi jump ship. Still not sure how it ended up 2' from the pond, on the outside bog wall. It's possible one of the dogs fished it out if it was dead and plopped it there, I guess.
My first lilly bloomed this morning - the expensive one I splurged on and it's white! Can't wait for the others to grow and bloom, too.

with my pond lights no matter what kind I put silicon on the seal before I screw the lens in and it keeps them watertight .I like that I can see the fish swimming around at night when I'm sitting out there .I do put mine on a timer of 6 hours on and the rest of the time they are off .I put them in my waterfall and it really gives a nice wavy effect as the water sheets over the light .I tuck them back in .

My under water lights I have one the seal leaked, had to pull it out and put silicon gasket sealer all around the oring and put it back together and it worked fine, But the fish constantly move them around. They get algae growth on the lights and honestly, I don't think in my pond they look that great. I really prefer the lights to shine down on the fish. The lights in the pond if the overhead isn't on all the fish seem to want to swim sideways, it throws there sense of up and down off and they will try to aim the dorsal to the light. Looks goofy but it does give you a chance to see their sides better.

Great idea about the silicone, Sissy! And, I would think the lights IN a pond would be on the side, but how do you attach them, since the only thing is the liner and you can't puncture it? I wondered how that worked. Do they dangle or what? I'm curious, because I really think that lights IN the water would be really nice, especially if they were where I could easily clean off the lens if it got covered with algae, which I'm sure it would. :)

Mine were in the pond and they sprung leaks so now I just have them on the top of the rocks. Mine were cheapies from Lowes.

They have weighted bottoms that just sit on the bottom. The best way to keep the fish from moving them around is to nestle them in between pots or rocks. The bases are usually about 6" round and weigh about a pound or so.

All I do is put a rock on the wire and sit them against the side of the pond .They just look like there leaning sideways ,the rock holds the wire which in turn holds the light were ever you want it .If the just sit on the bottom they just shine up and blind you .I adjust mine up or down on the side by giving it a little more wire by lifting the rock

the rocks I'm talking about are on top of the pond out of the water and they just hold the wire so the light is suspended on the side of the pond .

LOL, got me on that one! Not suppose to have cinder blocks either but I do have one left and I have one of my lights stuck up in there. Keeps the fish out of it and it's hidden so all you see is light. One is nestled in between two rocks I have along the side, the other is inbetween a rock in the water fall and my large cyprus. It lights up the water fall and gives the pond a sparkling effect at night.
