great job on being a fish parent now .But remember koi I found change color .I had an all black one that is now orange and black and he was all black for close to 5 years .You never know when they are going to change color .I also had one that was orange and had black and white spots and she is now all white .Your rope corral looks great being you braided it and that braiding will make it sturdier too

Thanks, Sissy. Yep, the breeder even made comments each time a person chose a fish, remarking on how they will likely change colors, especially the black ones. The Asagi's I got are really cute! And, this breeder knew who the parents were of the fish, I was amazed! It was a fun time, I'm so glad I was able to go and be part of it. Was fun watching others choose their fish, too. We took turns, each choosing 2 fish at a time, as several of us got there at the same time. It was great fun for all!

OK, here you go, picture of the 99 cent floaties from Menards (on sale this week), 2 of them, with pieces of old hose to hold them together! And, guess who is in the middle of the pic, eating food, and probably nibbling on the hyacinths??? Yep, that would be my star, Shamu! LOL

Nice fish and plants country and how do you use the hose to hold the floaty together?

Stick the ends of the floaties into the hose

Koiguy I think so as the floaty is much too big to stick in the hose unless there is something I am missing. So you must have to carve a hole in the floaty on both ends and hope the hose stays in there tight?

JW, the floatie already has a hole that you can put your finger into. I just cut a piece of old hose, stuck it in one floatie end, then the other floatie into the hose. Voila! And, yes, the hose I used was probably 5/8" and it is really tight, a little hard to shove the floatie onto the hose, but snug fit is good. :)

Ok thanks. The floaty I cut open the other day was solid and no little holes in the ends. I made a floating ring out of it to put a plastic strainer in and then the batting material to catch the fines that come out of the waterfall but had to use twine to jerry rig it together cuz duct tape doesn't like the water. It's holding but looks kinda dweeby but then hey it's only a temporary float used when needed

Like I said we are all getting pond fever to much ponding going on not enough bonding .I bought those pool floats at the dollar store and all I did was heat both ends to melting held them together for a few minutes and done .I actually put 2 together for the big pond fine screen netting pea gravel and foam peanuts and I planted plants in it to float around like an island. I used some foam peanuts to make it lighter .I will have to try to get over there to take a pic .

Yeh if you wait until end of season I got mine last year at walmart with the bigger holes they make great insulation for exposed hosing for ponds .You just slice them and wrap them around your hose .
