Hi ponders;
I have a question about the gravel to use for my bog. I know I'm suppose to use 3/8" pea gravel, but my son has a large pile of this in his back yard.
Can it be used??? Opinions, please and thank you...

Baeya if you would like to use that gravel just take a hammer and crack them into smaller pieces. :evil:

Koiguy, I was hoping for that answer......just wasn't sure cause some of it is only 1/4". I'm planning on drilling 1/4" holes in the 2" pvc pipe, do ya think I should drill a little smaller and make more holes, or just go for it???

Baeya I am not the bog expert but I don't see why you couldn't do the 1/4 holes. Are the holes facing down or up in the bog?

this is my thoughts on the holes.. lots of smaller ones on top,and some larger ones on the bottom...the waters being pushed out not sucked in so clogging shouldnt be a huge issue. but if by chance the top smaller holes do clog the larger bottom holes sould operate wiithout a hitch.

that gravel will work fine baeya, free is good! if you want up holes do like kio ponder says put some up and down on the pipe. The only time the gravel can clog the holes is when you turn it off and they will clog the holes, had it happen on a previous small bog I made, now all my holes/ slots are pointing down.

i dont have a bog but thinking about it i would say you will be fine with that side gravel, tho if it is a concern, why drill holes, you could use a small angle grinder and cut slots in the pipe,

That is why we did slots, 1/3-1/2 through the 2 inch pvc and faced them down, so far been running for over a year, every part of the bog still has great water flow.

I'm just gonna do slots and holes up and down! LOL I need to get the darn first layer of block down. I thought Tony would surprise me today since he shafted me yesterday and today was his day off........BUT, NOT!! He went golfing... Promised he would help me tomorrow, but he also knows the forcast is rain.

keep the up holes small, you don't want a lot of gravel getting into the pvc to eventually clog it up, that stuff has a way of going everywhere.
