Wish I knew how to cut and paste.... I just read an article in Health and Wellness that talks about the bad vegetable oil, how we starting switching from traditional animal fats 50 years ago and now the heart attacks and strokes are through the roof these days because of the vegetsble oils.

Interesting, cause they say it causes Gall stones too!!!

Mitch I never said we lived longer back then, cause we died of simple things that we can today fix very easy....

I said Heart Attacks and Strokes were unheard of when all we ate was animal fats! Today we have a epidemic of heart attacks and strokes, due to the bad vegetable oils....

When you reply Colleen, see the little chain figure when you roll your mouse over it? It's just above the box that you type in when you're replying here.
If you see an article that you want to include in your message here, open it in another window or tab, highlight and copy the window address (starts with www), then come back and paste it in the window that pops up from the "chain" window. :)

My wife and I used to own a dental practice. When there was such a scare about the H1N1 virus a couple of years ago, the misinformation that scared people was really eye opening.
So much has changed since then. Some people were comparing it to a spread like the plague back in the 1300's. People don't seem to understand how bacteria spreads and how we do things so much differently now.

Thanks Mitch, but I don't have a mouse, just a touch pad, going to get a mouse then my nefew someday can show me a few things...

Yes many people are misinformed today and still believe saturated fats are somehow bad for us, even though whole civiliations lived on these high saturated fat diets, and even though it was the food we were always meant to eat.

Remember when they told us the fat on the steak was bad, I never believed that, and now in the Journal of English Medicine, it is reported that the fat on that steak is actually the very very best for your heart!!! Yes, that is right, because it contains Stearic Acid which is very very good for the heart!

Europe is farther ahead of us, North America many people have been brainwashed about saturated fats, but that is changing, people are waking up slowly and the truth about saturated fats are FINALLY coming out...

I bought steaks w/ some fat on them. Hubby cut it all off but a small amount. I said what did you do that for.................you just got rid of all the flavor and good stuff. He refused to sew it back on :biggrinangelA:
I have always loved the fat on anything and I eat it and I don't have high blood pressure or high cholesterol. I have lots of the good cholesterol. Now sugary sweet stuff is my weakness

Yep the miracle of medicine is amazing ,I know first hand from my hubby .A simple thing like a stent to open arteries in the heart .Looks like a spring and it works wonders .But my hubby never had real bad high blood pressure and still got plague in his arteries and he ate meat but not a lot of fattening foods .After he got all the blood in the hospital in the last month he has been fighting high blood pressure and that is what is making his heart work harder and that is no good .

Yes jw. The best for you is the organic and unrefined, but all have their iwn benifets. Although there are many ways of extracting the oil from the nut, you must get a brand that does not use chemicals to extract the oil. You can get it online, and it is not the cheapest stuff to buy. The best thing ive found to do is to find someone or better yet several someone's that want to go in on bulk. The more you buy the better discount u get ive found. But all in all It not too terribly bad really.

naturally, organic is best but as long as it's not hydrogenated its likely o.k. oil with young coconuts will have a flavor. mature coconuts are more neutral. for everyday cooking i use LouAna brand. it is solid under 76* and suitable for up to 350* it is solid white, so it looks like shortening (hydrogenated) but it's not. i'll post some info if i can find some.
http://www.louana.com/product-detail.aspx?productID=75&catID=44&pcatID=37

i use organic for non cooking uses... i put it in my coffee, let it melt over veggies, etc..
this conversation picks up where we were in the great health thread...

As you do research, you will find there are MANY MANY MANY uses for it. Lots of recipes for lotion, lip balm, conditioner etc... I exchange it for veg oil in baking recipes also. The refined oil is tastless, and people like to use it fir cooking on the stove, but really the subtle nutty taste it adds isnt bad either, and you will eventually get to where you dont notice. My kids never knew I changed to it. But you do have to start slowly when changing to coconut oil(, ie: if something calls for 1 cup, start with 1/4 of coconut oil and the rest with what ever you used before, if you notuce a GI difference, keep the intake at a minimum to let your body get used to it and slowly add more as you feel it settle. Reason for this is, coconut oil has antifungal and antibactrial attributes, which means it will start to kill off all of the bad critters in your system, yeast being a huge one, and will make one very......Gassy :) kind if like going from eating nothing but white bread your whole life and then all of the sudden deciding to make your own whole bread and eating only that.
