Great news! Not only did the house just past my house sell, but sold to people who like a nicely mowed yard! We both mowed last Thursday, and they mowed tonight! I'll do mine tomorrow to "keep up"! I'm loving it, especially since last summer, the owner only mowed it 3 or 4 times all year! Yes, we had a drought, but when she finally got someone to mow it late summer, it was worse than a hay field. What a mess! Maybe they will ask for some plants and flowers to spruce up their landscaping. What is there is pretty pitiful, not been taken care of for over 2 years.
Heading out to sit on the deck with computer now. Beautiful evening, threat of rain is gone, very spotty again.

One of the things I find sad in life is how a house owned by an avid gardener can pass to a slob and go from a delight to an eyesore.

Wonder if my neighbors feel that way about me. The backyard is all torn up and looks like a war zone.

Well, in my case, my house had so-so landscaping. I pretty much redid it all, but was happy to do so. The neighbor didn't do much with her yard, it was not a priority for her. Then, she moved out, left the house empty for 2.5 years, didn't even put it on the market until last fall. The new owners seem like they will fix things up in time. They are finishing the basement right now, so that's a huge investment, will double their living space. I'm really happy for them. The little 3 year old boy, Pierson, said to me when I went over this evening (meeting me for the first time), "Isn't this a beautiful house? It's a beautiful house, isn't it? I love my beautiful house." LOL He's a doll, and so is his 6 year old sister, both very smart, very outgoing, my kind of kid. Told their mom if they move and want the kids to come over to get out of the way, I would be happy to watch them for an afternoon. She said she just may take me up on that! I have enough stuff around here to keep them busy looking at and so forth.

Sissy, when I see things like that, I always wonder if the new owners got the money given to them, either inheritance or lottery, and that's why they really don't care. I can't imagine having the money to buy a brand new house, and then not take care of it! How crazy is that?! You live in the country, so no ordinance probably for making them mow their grass. Sad sad sad. I'm just really glad I have neighbors that enjoy a well groomed lawn. Bet they eventually have some beautiful landscaping, too. She said probably next year for the outside stuff. They have a lot of backfilling to do around the house before they can plant anything. Their house is just like mine was. Ground settled after basement and house built, and no one ever backfilled it again. It's probably 2' lower than it should be. They (like me) already added window wells and will be backfilling dirt to get the grade higher so the water doesn't run TO the house instead of AWAY. I don't get why people don't see that issue!

The house my sister wants to buy has not been taken care of and she would be happy to buy it if only the sellers would lower the price so she can have enough money left to fix it up. I am afraid if they see the report from the inspector who did a wonderful job of finding all the things wrong w/ the house that they will throw up their hands and just walk away. They already lost 2 buyers in the past 6 months as they could not get financing. My sister has cash to buy it. We are wondering now if they could not get financing cuz the house would not pass the banks inspection for the asking price? Oh boy is this a stressful time for my sister. Sure hope it all works out somehow.
