Both are nice little machines for HOMEOWNER use, I just get riled that salesmen will claim they are COMMERCIAL and unsuspecting homeowners are not getting what they THINK they are. Our Kabota is something we got for our yard ... personally I liked our old Bunton Walk Behind mower (I liked the knee shifter where it was) ... got it for the right price, but hubby says Bunton's are a piece of crap .. He shouldnt complain, I could have asked for a Great Dane (you stand on the back of the machine) ..

I could buy John Deere because I get a discount but why would I need to spend that much for a lawnmower for my lawn .My hubby bought the cub cadet because of the weight of it and the bigger tires to grip the hill .Flat lawns are much easier than my hill .He looked a all the other so called high dollar machines and the prices were over the top expensive for a homeowner I don't need it or want it .I would rather spend that money on a new Ford Edge than a mower for my yard .Lou it is a 38 inch deck and just a troy built pony .They have been making them for many years now .Tube was 15x6.00-6 Thing is I need a seat with side armrests to keep from sliding off the seat on the hill .I love my little red sports mower all I need is flames on the side :cheerful: :cheerful:

My hubby's big zero Kabota is like riding on a thrill ride in a carnival...................you put that baby in gear and fly like the wind...............wahoooooooooooooooooooo! It scared me at first as I thought I was gonna mow all the trees, bushes and everything in the yard down if I turned those bars the wrong way! I'll stick to my little Kabota w/ the steering wheel

Thats the way I feel a car has a steering wheel so a lawn mower should .I tense up on the zero turn and then when I am done my neck and shoulders hurt .Since I have had to do all the yard work they should put a pop out trimmer on the ride on so you can trim and mow at the same time .That or invent a grass that never grows and just stays pretty and green and is not the fake stuff .Smells like grass and feels like grass .Out on my lawn you bounce around like you are going to rattle your teeth loose .

Sissy, I have a Cub Cadet and it was a "commercial" style. I think it's 52 or 56" deck, and it has been a good machine for me. I don't have any hills now, and it gets stuck in the ditch if there is water/mud, but I still like it. It is heavy duty, but mostly it's HEAVY! I used to be able to pull my Dixon out of the ditch if it got stuck, but not this brutas. I have to get the tractor or the truck to pull it if it gets stuck. Luckily, I know when to stay out of the ditch, and have not gotten it stuck but just a couple of times since I got it about 10 years ago. So far it has been a great mower, and it has the handles, not the steering wheel. I am short, so even the armrests don't fit me very well, and they adjust! Seat goes all the way forward, and still seem to need it further forward. LOL

We only have 1/2 an acre so we don't need anything fancy for mowing. I use the Kubota BX for mowing the alleys and such but it is a bit too big for most of the yard.
For that I use this little rear engine Ariens RM1332 riding mower, 13HP 32 inch deck, named go-put. It is something like a cross between a lawn mower and a go cart.

This spring it has spend more time helping us with pond work then mowing. It does a good job of bagging leaves in the fall but does not hold much.

My daughter is in UT, and she feels the same way as you, Mitch. If she gets her irrigation up and running, she would water her pasture for the horses, but not the yard for her to have to mow. Just seems impractical to her. She would like some landscaping, however. Needs to set up drip lines to run for that. We shall see if she someday adds some greenery to her house perimeter. Right now, she's just enjoying her mountains and horses.

I have never seen a ariens before .Looks like it can haul alot and thats why I like my troy built it has been a work horse here, hauling rocks, dirt and mulch and even wood .I have put this lawn mower to work and it has not failed me yet .I change the oil and air filter and give it gas and it keeps on ticking .I have gone through a few lawn mower blades because of rocks just popping up while I am mowing .I sharpen them and rebalance them but then have to change them sooner or later .I get the blades at the flea market cheap for it at 10 dollars and usually buy 3 at a time this way i have them here and don't have to run out to get them ,plus cheaper than lowes or home depot and same brand .I had to fill the tires with air a lot so decided to invest in those tubes .I think of course I got the defective ones ,always do . :cheerful:

Walked out to the pond this morning to horrid silence. No peaceful gurgling of water, nothing! Ye gads, the pump was not running! Visions of getting a new pump and hiring the pond guy flashed in front of my eyes! Was it the pump? A breaker? The connection between the pump and the buried power line? Or the long run of underground approved power cable.

Through a carefully thought out process of elimination, wifey's electric can opener (classified as Alabama engineering) I discovered it was the buried power cable. If you are wondering about the can opener, this marvelous little device enabled me to eliminate the on-house GCIF connection and confirm it was the undergrown line. Don't know the how or why the cable failed. Next task is to decide upon a more secure power line. For now, a heavy duty outside power cable carefully placed across the lawn has the pump purring!

Speaking of purring, I discovered Sunny curled up in the mass of pond iris'! Blooms are gone so I was happy she has a new comfy spot that is literally in the pond yet dry when the plant stalks fold over.

Happy Day!
