I know my troy built mower has 5 on it and when I mow with the cub cadet it comes out to number 4 on it .I tried both mowers to see which height was the same .Seems 4 on the cub cadet commercial zero turn is the same as 5 on the troy built lawn mower .Here if you mow lower the grass will die from the heat and clay soil .Plus all that grew in the soil before I bought the property was scrub pines .

I usually mow at 3.5 I will try higher mine stops at 4.5. Since I stopped the neighbor the weeds have slowed down, grass seems to be growing better.

I'm glad I'm not the only "tall grass" mower. I had my Cub on 4 (not sure if that translates to 4" or not) and moved it down to 3.75, then to 3.5 and had to put it back up to 4 again. But, the grass looks so healthy. Now, if you mow down 2" from where I was mowing, it's VERY thick, and thus tons of grass is on our road, because he mows it onto the road. I, on the other hand, do all I can to mow it into the ditch, rather than on the road. He's just a dork. Sent him a text, not sure if he got it or not, so will call when he gets ready to mow again.
Then, this afternoon, their daughter hit the neighbor's mastiff dog, he ended up dying. Now, don't get me wrong, I have 2 dogs that chase cars, and sooner or later they are going to get hit, and the mastiff was TERRIBLE about running out in front of cars, like he had a big stop sign. But, to not stop and make sure the owners knew he got hit? To me that is unexcusable. Is it just me? The mastiff's owner's daughter was outside, saw the whole thing, and was devastated. Again, I think it was the dog's fault, he shouldn't have been in the road, but I also think the girl that hit him should have stopped. What would you do in the same situation? I already know what I would do, as I've hit 2 dogs in my life, and both times I stopped to let the owner know. Both times it was not my fault, the dogs were chasers, but I still wanted to let the owner know.

Two and a half is an optimal height especially for St. Augustine. We have Raleigh St. Augustine. Bermuda is a difficult grass to keep at a consistent two to two and a half height. The same or up to inches is good for mixed grass grass. A consistent height chokes out weeds better and the soil retains more moisture. With tuff pasture grass four or even five inches may be necessary. Some grasses do benefi from a once a year scalping. Before you ever scalp your grass confirm when and if it is needed.

We maintain our neighborhood common areas grass height at thirty-six to forty-eight inches so the lions and tigers can hide when they go for take-out.

I thought it was against the law to hit and run a dog and just leave the scene w/o telling anyone or calling animal control to report it. It's inhumane to leave an animal laying there hurt w/o any kind of help. If dead and no one around to tell you can still call and report it.

Lou my cats love when the grass grows Africa tall like that

I know here it is a thousand dollar fine if you leave but the owner of the dog can be sued for damages to the vehicle also

Big Lou said:
Back to cutting grass. Tis never good to cut when grass is wet. When wet, the blade in inefficient. The heavy wet grass bends over making being cut hit and miss. Much of the grass that is cut is rough sheared,
And as I recall the newly cut wet grass can catch some sort of illness/disease. Maybe fungus.
