Cape, this is the place where it came from, and what the website says about the plant: http://www.alphanursery.com/material.html/1/Azalea Rosebud/0/72217023225356242
However, it still does not say it is evergreen, so I shall assume it is not. :disappointed_anim: BUT, I didn't buy it because it was possibly evergreen, I bought it because of the double pink flowers. I'll post pics when it bursts with bloom, which should be in the next week, I would guess. I see at least 6 very red buds on my other struggling azalea, but hopefully now that I know to add peat to the soil, it will do better each year.
Well, then it will be something to keep you in suspense LOL

Dont forgot those coffee grounds too;-)

Yep, Cape, will put coffee grounds in there once a week, or would that be too much? I already added some peat moss/potting soil so that should help the old one, and will be sure to do that for the new one. Have to move one more plant. Not sure where this one is going to go, though. May have to dig it in for now, decide later. It's a nice round sedum, the low growing kind I gave you a start of, long branches, but stays low to the ground. I think I'm going to have another "digging up party" tomorrow after work, with all that people have asked for, and all that I still have to give away!
Went ahead and put a couple of free ads in local newspaper for dwarf cattails and pond lilies. We'll see if I can get any local interest in either. Maybe I'll find people to buy some of my goldfish as well.

How do you plant the cattails? I may want some.

It really depends on how heavy the clay is, how much rain/water. If it is nearly 100% clay, I would do it a few times, and then see how it is doing. Unlike pills or powders, you'll need to give a little bit of time for it to break down,

For others reading, the soil where this older azalea is planted is clay/high PH ... if you are a coffee drinker, coffee grounds are a free way to lower the PH of the soil for acid loving plants. (Mulching in pine needles is another free be to do the same thing.)

While on natural options .. I cant remember where, but I had mentioned I had gotten a facebook forward about white vinegar .. one of the things on the list was as a weed killer. I dumped about 1/4 cup onto a dandilion weed and it COMPLETELY killed it. At $3 per gallon for white vinegar, or spend $60+ gallon for concentrated Round Up ... hmmm.... vinegar or chemical???? Need to go get another gallon of vinegar to hit the weeds in our gravel driveway.

I am sooo loving the cattails you sent!!! At this point they seem to be growing a couple of inches per day. The biggest ones have exceeded 18" already.

I dont know if it was right or wrong, but hubby planted them in cat litter with an inch of gravel in the base of the pot (so the litter wouldnt fall out the holes), and the top of the pot (to hold the litter in) ... later, when their area is ready, will just put ours directly into the gravel.

If you add salt to the vinegar it kills weeds faster .I also add epsom salts to my fertilizer it helps soften the soil .I buy it by the big bag ad add it all over my lawn and a teaspoon under each tree .

Lou, Cape is correct. If you have a pea gravel bog, just plop them in there. If you want to contain it in a pot in your pond, use the pea gravel/kitty litter/pea gravel or larger rock on top. They are VERY easy to grow, and I have bunches yet I want to thin out. I won't throw them away, I am hoping to get rid of another 30 of them with the local ad, but would much prefer to ship them to ponders for postage! Let me know if you want some, how many, and PM me with your address. Glad to ship you some! Digging tonight ....

What size pots and how deep can the pots be placed? I would probably use Aqua-soil. Thanks

We have ours in 2 and 3 gallon nursery pots, but they will NOT last all that long in there (4-5 per pot), before either jumping ship, or cracking the pot! I also wouldnt advise using any planting media with nutrients in it. You are shooting yourself in the foot ... #1 the plants will use the nutrients in the pot, instead of what is in the pond. My view is I place plants IN the pond to CLEAN. Cattails are also invasive, unless you want TONS of them, you are better off NOT feeding them LOL.

Here's what mine look like this morning. They were either babies or pretty well trimmed back for shipping, and look at them now. They arrived here April 12th. I have the room, and want more of them, so maybe we should be feeding ours LOL. Once we get more gravel in the bog, I have a 4' x 12' area I want to dedicate JUST to them (the entire bog is 18 x 8). The two shallow totes next to them are all Pickerel Weed another group member was so kind to share. The PW will be getting this whole area:)

(Ignore the ugly hose, that's an extra pump running to a basket of pillow stuffing to get rid of the algae in the bog.)

I love learning about "alternatives" ... so many chemicals everywhere in our lives, like to avoid them when possible. I poured about 1/4 cup of straight vinegar (I cant remember if I was supposed to dilute it or not) on this weed late Sunday afternoon ... forgot to look yesterday (overcast most of the day), and this is what it looks like right now.
