Took load of scrap metal off truck this morning ($44) and went to landscaping place ... spent that and then some! Got several different kinds of petunias for my hanging baskets, found a double pink azalea that is ready to bloom, full truck bed of mulch (that was 4 scoops) and then stopped at neighbor's and picked up my tomatoe and other plants I bought from their son through the Boy Scouts. Wow, I have a bunch to plant once again. I'm in heaven!!!! Now, if the rain would please stop so I can unload that mulch and plant the flowers, that would be awesome! Thinking I'll ask the neighbor boy (that I bought the plants from) to help me unload the mulch. He needs some work, and I can give him $20 for helping scoop it into the wheelbarrow for me, and we both win! Maybe some evening this week, when the ground is not a soppy wet sponge.

Hubby needs to make a scrap run, but no time. Nothing I can do to help either. He has a pile that needs sorting (aluminum and copper pay more) and two vehicles (one was bought for parts, and another that finally it's time to retire) .. Had a scrapper call (a salvage yard) when the pickup was listed on Craigslist for parts ... he's offering $1000+ for both vehicles, which is fair for their weights (expedition, he said at least $600 with the cats, and F150 for $400 without the engine). On vehicles, scrap has been running $220 ton, so it is really a sweet deal to have him come get the vehicles.

Next time you are looking for Azaleas, look for the newer (last 5-8 yrs) varieties that are evergreen if you havent discovered them yet!!! I have two "Saybooks" and love them. Pretty shade of pink and keep the leaves year round ... they come in different colors too, we just have the pinks, so I know their name.

I asked the owner about the azalea, why it also had "rhododendrum" on the tag, I thought those were two different plants! He said one is deciduous, I think the rhododendrum, and that some of the azaleas are evergreen now! So, I'd better look again at the tag, maybe I got lucky! It's dark, and raining again, and I've been cold and damp all day, so not going back out tonight. LOL

Cape, the tag says it is an Azalea Rosebud shrub. On the back of the tag, it says Azalea Rhododendron Rosebud, but says nothing about being an evergreen. I'll have to watch for that next time I'm in the market for an azalea.
Lou, who did you hit over the head with your skillet??? Maybe one of the landscapers, the one that almost fell into your pond?! :claphands:

Both belong to the same family. I cant remember, but think somewhere in the "pedigree" the rhodies were used to make the azaleas.

Hmmm... I thought all Rhodies were evergreen. Azaleas used to be all deciduous, that's why I was so excited to find the evergreen varieties. I love azaleas but hated how they were ugly twigs in the winter.

I tried looking up the name of your plant, and most of the sites said it was evergreen, but then a couple said it wasnt. When you look at the tag, see who the cultavator is, and include their name in the search with the plant name, and you should get a definative answer.

Well a cast iron frying pan can't be far, never had a cast iron frying pan just "up and walk off", it's always "just there" .... not like someone is going to up and take your pan, you would think? I have heard that they are very easy to sell at a quick profit, and alway's worth some money.... is anything else missing?

Cape, this is the place where it came from, and what the website says about the plant: http://www.alphanursery.com/material.html/1/Azalea Rosebud/0/72217023225356242
However, it still does not say it is evergreen, so I shall assume it is not. :disappointed_anim: BUT, I didn't buy it because it was possibly evergreen, I bought it because of the double pink flowers. I'll post pics when it bursts with bloom, which should be in the next week, I would guess. I see at least 6 very red buds on my other struggling azalea, but hopefully now that I know to add peat to the soil, it will do better each year.

We're sure it is behind something in some cabinet. Just can't imagine a theft.
