We are extremely pleased with his work just the on and off gets a bit nervene. He has multiple jobs going on so I'm sure that is where he and his crew are so far this week. Friday he said he would see me Monday. If he would just tell us he's not coming then all is fine.
That on and off would drive me crazy, as well as a no call that he cant make it. HERE, contractors will take a deposit, lock it in by making a mess, then go elsewhere, and do the same. Unless a material needed for the job is out of stock, or waiting for an inspection, we are on one job at a time til it is done. We've had a few clients over the years be a bit unhappy that it took time for us to get to them, but once there, they know we are all theirs unless a true emergency.

The most important thing right now is you are happy with the work they are doing. As a contractor, I dont like the fact that you sound that you feel you are not that important to your contractor since the meat and potatoes may have been paid already .. the reference to the driveway not being profitiable to the contractor. No client should ever feel like that.

I miss having a kitty. We are at that stage where the kids are moving in and out. Youngest is going through the "I know it all stage" so is now staying with her grandparents ... that is a good thing LOL, but miss her kitty sitting with me ... older daughter moved back in, and her kitty is super sweet, but is too afraid to come down stairs yet. A recent bad experience with a dog our daughter doggie-sat has Lacey not wanting to meet our dog:-( Told hubby I wanted a tiny Chihuahua ... best of both worlds... He thinks I was joking, but I really want one LOL.
I love my chi and could not imagine life without him and my hubby would not be alive with out him .He is an applehead there are also deer heads and deer heads do not have the breathing problems

Too cute. Some years back, I met a chi breeder at one of the shows we were entered at. I fell in love with his tiny guys. His adults were only 1.5 to 2 lbs. Of course I dont remember the breeders name, but once I get hubby to my way of thinking, will just go to a few shows to see if I can find him. What I am hoping for is a "retired breeder" ... I dont need to do the "puppy thing", so a 4 - 5 yr old adult would be perfect for me. Still a young dog that I can have for many years. I dont care about color, gender or hair length. I love them all, personality is what I am looking for. Something small that wants to snuggle, and run estimates/errands with me:)

Please expound upon ".......the reference to the driveway not being profitiable to the contractor. No client should ever feel like that.". I should have added we feel the LS Designer is out of his area of expertise with the driveway. Initially he did not reveal his lack of experience with a driveway.

Give me your advice please. If the driveway continues being a near impossible task for the contractor would it be "rude" of us to suggest he finish all other tasks and drop the driveway and garage door? What is an acceptable way to ask for the total price be adjusted?

Thanks,
Lou & Cathy

You had written "All that's left to do is the driveway (a money loser for him since he under estimated the difficulty)" and some misc other items, which I took to mean the contractor is dragging his feet to get back there since he will lose money on the driveway. You hired what you believed to be a professional. You shouldnt be wondering at this stage in the game if he knows what he is doing, is able to finish, or his unreliability. I find this all unacceptable as a business owner. It is NOT my intent to worry you more, I just hate that you sound uncomfortable, and NEVER should you be feeling that way. It gives all contractors a bad name. You choose to hire because either you were unable, or unwilling to do the work yourself. Peace of mind is supposed to come with hiring a professional .. I dont care if it is pouring out. If hubby is scheduled to be some place, and cant work as promised, I call to let the client know.

Questions ...

#1, did you sign a contract? A verbal contract can be just as binding as a written contract, but it is easier to get out of a verbal contract.

#2, did this contractor give you multi prices, with a combined total, or did they just say $x for all? IF each item is itemized out, with indiviual prices given, you can outright tell him that while you are happy with the work so far, you are not comfortable continueing (whatever you are feeling).

IF it was just one price given, you are at the mercy of the contractor to be fair and say deduct $x for whatever you take off the list. In that case, if you think he can handle doing the rest of the work, do not pay another penny until the job is complete AND you are happy with the quality of the workmanship.

By not paying anything else til completion, if you are not happy, you can hire someone else to fix whatever, and use the remaining moneys to hopefully cover the new contractor.

Yes, we signed a simply contract with a total price. Your answer was exactly what I expected. Thank you so much. Time will tell........

I am going to hope it all works out as was originally planned, but a signed contract, that wasnt itemized still has some outs for you.

IF for any reason, you want out, especially of the driveway, call 3 other contracts to get written estimates for that one aspect, so you can find what a fair amount would be to deduct if things dont continue in a positive manner. Yes, the contractor could take you to small claims court under "breach of contract" but your position would be his misrepresentation of his abilities to complete it in a timely and professional manner. You come across as a very kind and patient person. I cant imagine a judge to find you otherwise.

At the very least, I would express your dissatisfaction of his no call/no show. Simply tell him you are understanding that things come up, but please, in the future, if he is unable to come. to please call.

Plenty of Chi mixes around, but I want a little guy LOL. I cant walk into a shelter, bad place for me to go ... I am actually not allowed per hubby ... God only knows what I would come home with. The last four legged "rescue" I took in was a Tegu ... Six years later, he is still here LOL.

Here's a pic of hubby playing with Baby

What are you going to do when "Baby" gets four feet long? You certainly are a caring person to rescue such a marvelous creature. What do your Cape Cod friends think of Baby. He certainly provides you with a unique starter topic at dinner parties! ( love it smile )

Baby isnt going to reach 4' in length... I havent measured him in quite awhile, but I think he was about 44" tip of nose, to tip of tail at last measure. He is about 11 years old now. He was a tough luck situation. Our friend's son was murdered. The Tegu belonged to the younger brother (then 22). After his brother's death, he had to relocate for his sanity, which meant placing all of his pets. Well, the friend knew our youngests Bearded Dragon had passed away (a rescue from the vets office) and was looking for another BEARDED DRAGON ... a smaller, more docile reptile... Our friend wasnt exactly a reptile expert, and called saying his son was desperate to place some of his pets, and didnt know who else to call ... Went and look, and saw he was a Tegu. He was also very agressive, but given the younger brother needed to leave THE NEXT DAY, we took him, and a little 5-6" Leopard Gecko that he had rescued (Shadow just passed away a few months ago). It was FUN at 11 pm trying to find an available friend to help carry his tank (180 gallons) ... realistically, it isnt big enough, but we never got/made him anything bigger, as he is usually loose in my sons room. I REFUSED to take the 11 foot albino boa, and thankfully, another friend did step up to take her before I gave in. It took about 6 months to tame the Baby. He was well fed, but the owner being young really had more of the macho touch. When I was active in the dog world, I did a lot with rescue/fostering and training/retraining. We all just applied basic DOG positive reinforcements, and he became quite the sweetheart, thus the name Baby ... My son never named him, and I got tired of saying TEGU... My son hated it, and eventually started calling him BUDDY, but I named him first LOL. Our friends EITHER love him and think he is the coolest creature, or totally scared to death of him. There is no middle ground. Personally, I love when he lets himself out of my sons bedroom, and he comes down the stairs for cuddle time (yes, I do mean cuddle time) ... Since our older daughter moved back in tho, we do have to be careful of Baby and Lacey being together. Baby WILL go for a cat. The only other negative with him is when he is loose, NO BARE FEET OR FLIP FLOPS ... wiggling toes look like prey to him. Otherwise, he is an awsome pet. Personality is more cat like than dog, but he LOVES LOVES LOVES to play fetch. We just have to be sure it cant fit in his mouth or be crushed small enough to fit in his mouth, thus the Gatorade bottle... this is him carrying his bottle LOL.
