Just line the hole with the liner. If you cover your preform with liner, make sure you put some good holes in the bottom so water can't collect between the liner and the preform. (remember the liner might plug any crack you have then if water gets between the two the liner will float up until the leak is uncovered again)

That would be great, I need just a remnant, I need to go out and measure the size, it is not real big, I might make it a little bigger, if I feel like digging, since It will be by hand. Can't get the tractor in there anymore. I think it would not be too hard digging since I have stirred that dirt a few times, broken up the rock layers.
I would cut out the whole bottom. this would allow you to go deeper, increasing water volume and the side walls would still keep the walls stronger. (just that added sidewall cave in protection). and you'd get even better drainage so no water between liners. even if you didnt go deeper.

I don't know if I ever remember seeing that one Lou. I'll ask hubby he's better at remembering the films we've seen.

Oh Lordy! A flock of black birds (don't know what species) took a flight break in our front yard Burr Oak this afternoon. Our street and to-door sidewalks were literally covered in black poop! I spent some time putting down soap and washing with my high pressure nozzeled water hose. It will proably take muratic acid to fully clean the side walks. What did that flock of birds have against us? (LAUGH)

Well at least the poop was on the sidewalk rather than the pond! We have Red-Wing blackbirds nesting near us every year. When the babies are young the mother will drop the poops from the nest in the pond. It seems nonstop, and we actually have been very close to being hit. :grumble: They just swoop over the garage, let the bomb drop and then land in for a drink and bath.

When I was a kid, we had the largest tree in the small town we lived in, and the black birds congregated in it every night. My mother would arm us kids with old pots and pans and tell us to make as much noise as we wanted! It worked to get the birds to relocate. The birds were a huge problem with trees along the interstate in town where I live now. They roosted on the same trees night after night, and soon all the trees were dead from the poop. Of course, it didn't happen over night, but within a couple of years, all the pine trees that were so pretty were dead. The red-winged blackbirds stay out on my farm pond, as it has cattails around the perimeter of about 3/4 of that pond. They love them for the nests. I tell them they are not allowed on my small ponds, even though I have dwarf cattails.

Ah, thanks koiguy, that is brilliant! Leave the sides to hold up the sand then dig it deeper. Hmmm, what kind of implement for cutting it? That a gimpy fall risk would be allowed to use?

A jig saw would work, drill a starting hole first.

Utility knife, the kind with the hook on them. Sit in the middle and just cut around you!
