So looked on the net (of course cuz I have a need to know everything about anything) and somebody posted this and was wondering if we have anybody w/ any knowledge about confirming this information:
"Lead is not a problem. You’ll notice the surface is not shiny, but dull. That’s because the metal is covered with an adherent layer of basic lead carbonate, Pb3(CO2)2(OH)2. This forms within hours when lead is exposed to moisture and air, and prevents further corrosion or dissolution. If you scrape it to get a shiny surface, you can watch this happen. Lead pipes laid by the Romans are still in use. Lead doesn’t dissolve unless the pH is acidic, which it should never be in a pond. "

So it sounds like if you put it in touch w/ acid it is bad. So that is why I assume when birds eat it they die cuz of the acid in their stomach's..........whoa it's all coming together now. And if a baby chews on lead paint the acid in their tummies gets the lead degenerating.
And if a Roman drank wine which is acid in a lead mug then there ya go...........goner!
So sitting there in your pond it stays dormant and is considered safe and your water would never be that acid to start it dissolving.
