Warren Buffett, in a recent interview with CNBC,offers one of the best quotes about the debt ceiling ...
"I could end the deficit in 5 minutes," he told CNBC. "You just pass a law that says that any time there is a deficit of more than 3% of GDP, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election."
The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months and 8 days to be ratified! Why?
Simple! The people demanded it.
That was in 1971 - before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.
...
Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land -all because of public pressure. Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message.
This is one idea that really should be passed around.
Congressional Reform Act of 2012
1. No Tenure/No Pension
A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.
2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.
3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.
4. Congress will no longer votethemselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.
5. Congress loses their current health care system and participatesin the same health care system as the American people.
6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.
7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 12/1/12.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen/women.
Congress made all these contracts for themselves.
Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career.
The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.
If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days
for most people (in the U.S. ) to receive the message.
Don't you think it's time?
THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS

after all this JW he will be lucky he can walk ..Have to go to pharmacy to pick up his prescriptions too as he did not tell me he had 3 pills in each bottle left and I signed up for the CVS refill notifications also .Darn CVS .This is crazy and he is not allowed to drive because of his lost vision .Some of it was caused by the 5 times they used the paddles to bring him back .Also from the lack of oxygen to the heart .Tomorrow the lg range guy comes also and the CVS place is in Danville .What next .I think they are trying to kill me as he has to go to Danville on the 6th for the kidney and liver doctor as the x rays showed some damage there too .I have to get the oil changed in my truck and just got his inspected and the valves are tapping .What next .

Lots of stuff on your plate now sissy and sure hope your hubby gets all fixed up and done w/ all the running back and forth to doctors soon. You will get to rest then also. Now you just have to stay strong and get to the important things first and just try to take things one at a time. Praying it all works out well w/ all that is going on for you and hubby :)

Hang in there Sissy, I had 17 yrs of hubby being disabled, the last 5 yrs his mind was being very weird. I didn't think I could survive it, but you do. It helps to share the issues and talk it out with others.
Our thoughts are with you.

My hubby could barely walk when he left the hospital, he had to use a cane, and before that a walker while in the hospital. John is only 52! Then he a a big Hole in his neck to breath, thank goodness that is gone! He is healing quite nice now and becoming very active, and I now believe he is completely free of tobacco withdrawal symptoms that made him very cranky last month. I treasure every moment I have with him now, cause you don't know what could be on the horizon. Maybe tomorrow will be better! :)

Thinking of you, Sissy! I, too, enjoy your posts, and know that it is hard on you right now, not only because your husband needs your added attention, but because you are not able to be outside, not time for "you" right now. Hang in there for sure! My grandma always said (and my motto that I live by), "Things always work out for the best." Keep your chin up, we are all supporting you daily.
KoiGuy, was that piece you posted somewhere that I can post the link, rather than copy/paste it? I wanted to share it on FB.

I also shoved an appt with my uro doc before the end of the year sissy. Figure it will save me the deductible coming in Jan. also. Health care is not cheap so we gotta save where we can now being retired. We don't have eye coverage or dental so we have to look around for thrifty places to get that. Hubby still pays his retiree union dues so we can get cheaper med coverage and there is a plan at one dentist for lower costs for union members so that helps. As for eye exams, guess we will use Costco as it's not too bad. Hoping all calms down for you and lol you can rest your broom
