I saw something interesting on the news do you know the city of San Franscico California makes it illegal to own goldfish and that is because people flush live goldfish and causes problems with the sewer system .Who knew goldfish could be that big a problem and Switzerland has the same law .

depends what country they are from i would say !!

Quite right mogsie! Following this logic, Koi from Japan most likely have an interpreter awaiting their arrival in English speaking nations. This could be wrong since many Japanese are taught English throughout primary and secondary schools.

I wonder if they inforce the law though ,maybe fish cops come out .Well i know there are states here in the U.S. that don't allow koi .Look at some of the pond plants are not allowed either .I was wondering when I saw that and checked it out and 4 different sights on google say that .There are lots of laws here that are outdated that don't make since .

Yes, Hornwort is a noxious weed here in Canada and it can grow underground in the sewer, plug things up and leak out into the streams and take over! It does grow very well in my pond, even today with ice cold temperatures it still seems to look good, flowing under the ice! There are other things were not supposed to have like turtles, they are"forbidden" pets in Alberta" and you must hide them!

Hello
Yes those laws are just screwy
We have laws like that here
One that I remember is the Apple snail (I think that is the right name) but anyway the law says they are forbidden to have.
they don't want them spreading in to the lakes and rivers here.
And I understand that ok
But the fish stores here sell them and you can order them over the internet and they will deliver them to you even though they are outlawed.
If you are going to have a law then you need to have someone over looking it or why bother.

Actually, Lou, a LONNNGGG time ago all fish spoke the same language. Then they decided to build a Tower of Bubble, and the Good Lord decided to put a stop to it, so He made them all speak different languages. I think I read about it in the Bible when I was a kid. :goldfish: :profile:

The goldfish law would be pretty much the same reason you can't buy just one chick, baby ducks or goslings. Cause when they grow up they "ain't no fun no moe" lol :p then they either just let them go or drop them off at the animal shelters.
Idk if I've told this story before, but imma tell ya again :p When I bought the house we live in now, in the back of the house was a shed and an old chicken coop. One day I was just looking out my bed room window, which looks out into the back yard, I saw a rabbit run across the back of the property. A WHITE RABBIT  and then another popped up and another! WHAT IN THE WORLD?!?!? It is the strangest thing to look out into your yard and see huge white floppy ear rabbits! Apparently, someone in the neighborhood had let their tame rabbits go and they multiplied under MY chicken coop! LOL. All in all their were 42 rabbits WHITE RABBITS in my back yard  They had made a rabbit city under the chicken coop hah! It was crazy!
