Are swamp coolers evaporative air coolers or something else?

From Wikipedia

An evaporative cooler (also swamp cooler, desert cooler, and wet air cooler) is a device that cools air through the evaporation of water. Evaporative cooling differs from typical air conditioning systems which use vapor-compression or absorption refrigeration cycles. Evaporative cooling works by employing water's large enthalpy of vaporization. The temperature of dry air can be dropped significantly through the phase transition of liquid water to water vapor (evaporation), which can cool air using much less energy than refrigeration. In extremely dry climates, evaporative cooling of air has the added benefit of conditioning the air with more moisture for the comfort of building occupants. Unlike closed-cycle refrigeration, evaporative cooling requires a water source, and must continually consume water to operate.
Air washers and wet cooling towers use the same principles as evaporative coolers but are designed for purposes other than directly cooling the air inside a building. For example, an evaporative cooler may be designed to cool the coils of a large air conditioning or refrigeration system to increase its efficiency.

No the indoor unit is in a room in my house and is a heat pump unit and the condensor is outside .Since i changed out the water heater to on demand hot water heater the room just seems a waste to me just to house the small heater I have .The room is 5 ft by 5 ft and if I moved the unit to the basement i could make that room into a big walk in pantry and take the other pantry out and use that area for inlarging my morning room and putting in a small gas fireplace. The pantry i would take out is 3 ft deep by 6 ft wide and I sure don't need 2 pantries but if I ever sell a big walk in pantry in the kichen i feel would be a selling point rather than the one in the morning room .My other fireplace is a corner unit in my great room and since the morning room is off my kichen I could make it into a hearthroom .If i did that i think i could heat most of the house with the fireplaces ,I like it warm in my house and even in the summer i do not like a chilly house so keep my air conditioner up around 80 degrees.I think the older i get the less tolerance i have for cold .My house is super insulated to the point i use a air cleaner that is attached to my heater and does air exchanges

My sweet pea burned his new upper lip a bit cause he was eating hot soup that he made while I was at work and did not realize how hot it was because the new upper lip does not have a real lot of sensation there yet. I felt bad for him, and he was just grouchy tonight, poor dear, I wish I could "kiSS it all better"!!!

Congrats, Lou and Cathy! May the two of you have 33 more.
Sorry to hear about your hubby, Colleen! How awful, to get burned and not even know it! Poor guy ....
DISH guy is here, an hour late after he called again only to find out he was near where I used to live 3 years ago! You would THINK they would have given him the correct address, especially since they asked me for verification of my current address twice. Poor guy. But, even though my tv is working on all channels this morning, he looked and said I have very poor signal, more like 30, and should be minimum of 65! He says, "I will fix it!" So, we shall see. He has it up to 45 now, but still walking back and forth around my house. Sure don't have any trees in the area to cause any blockage of the signal, so it must be something else. Hoping he will get it figured out.
And, before my computer would post this correctly (had to come back and edit ...) he is gone. I now have 77 signal strength, he had to replace a couple of connectors to the wiring on the roof, and reposition the DISH. Should be good to go ... we shall see! He was very polite and seemed to know what he was doing.

Hubbys new upper lip not burnt too bad, and the whole new lip/cheek part they made for him when they took out the cancer is coming quite nice, even the burn does not look too bad today. He will just have to be more careful, learn as you go, at least he is eating more, even if it is lots of "Ensure" (liquid food in a bottle). Doctor said he needs to quit loosing so much weight, before they give him Radiation in about two weeks or so. Was thinking of posting some pictures of him on my old thread "ponds in Canada", just so people who use tobacco can see that this does happen to lots of people who use tobacco, just cause they mostly hide after the surgery, there still is LOTS of people at the cancer clinic who got cancer from smoking and chewing. What do you think, is it wrong to post pictures of your hubby who go sick from tobacco???

Cancer is a part of life, Colleen. I personally have never actually seen anyone who had cancer of the mouth, and would be very interested to see. Mind you, not interested because of the gory nature of the pictures, but rather to see how it looked after surgery, and to see his progress as he heals. THAT will be the real thrill to watch! I'd say if your hubby is ok with us fellow ponders watching his progress, I say go for it! Let us know the thread you are going to post them in, just in case we are not following it yet. I think others DO need to see that cancer of the mouth is a very dangerous cancer, and to have the surgery as your husband did, it quite heroic, and alarming for them for months, but that life will get back to normal in time. I wish him a very speedy recovery and one that he will look back on one day and see how horrific it was for him, but be able to smile at the progress he has made!

I doubt tobacco users would look at the pictures.

Colleen, if you want to post pictures and he does not mind, it is up to us to look or not look. We are pulling for him, it will take time.
