Wow wish we had health care service like that but then I don't want higher taxes so guess that might be the difference. How much taxes do you pay in Canada Colleen if you care to answer?

We pay lots, the highest tax of all the G7 nations, pretty sure. I can't remember the exact amount, but for us cause we have no kids and were married, we are in the highest tax bracket, like close to 50% of our income.

They "tax us to death" least they could do is take care of us! Oh well, all is well cause Johns getting better, I see improvement every day!
Had a nice snooze with my sweet pea, was scared to sleep with him for fear of moving the wrong way when I slept and hurting his wounds, but I just needed a little snuggle so I carefully crawed into bed and hugged him nice, felt good, really missed that the most!

Wifey is depressed while she waits to be informed if her company has a new job for her. A long wait too, sometime between now and November 24. I'm trying my best to keep her spirits up. We've already got the job search underway using five major sites that email opening via email every morning plus links to four cities job opportunities.

Cathy is not only my wife she is my best friend.

Gosh and thought our taxes were high .I came from NJ were property taxes were over 9 thousand a year and paid taxes to the government at close to 24 percent of my wages and now retired I still pay 14 percent and taxes here run a thousand dollars a year on house and land .Health insurance is still paid by ford but I do have to pay some into it .It does not pay for doctors visits and I pay 10 dollars for my meds if i need any .

Working for the State, I have excellent health care, at a great cost, so know I need to keep my job into retirement. Taxes on my house and 6 acres are about $3,500. Far less than the 50% you are talking, Colleen! Even if I figured in my health care costs, but then I also have to pay some toward healthcare if I need hospitalization, etc. My doctor/dentist/eye doctor visits are minimal, something like $10 per visit, and prescriptions are same if I can get generic. I have a cap of something like $1,500 per year, then health care is pretty much 100%. I think that's about as good as you get it here in the U.S., not sure though.
Lou, I am praying for you and your wife, hoping she gets either a new exciting job, or her company brings her back. Sometimes moving on is best, so I hope whatever works out is the best for her at this time in her life! Good luck to her.
Colleen, I can sure understand the snuggle issue! I bet your hubby missed that part as well. Keep close, keep snuggling, all will be better in time. Here, they kick out a new mother and infant the day after the birth, unless there were complications, like a C-Section. When my kids were born (both were C-Sections), I stayed mandatory 5 days. I think now it's maybe 3. Normal birth, 24 hours and you're out the door! My friend's 19 yo daughter is due next month, thinking the kid thinks it's going to be a big party having that baby to show off, she has no idea of what she is getting into. I pray for her to understand and be able to handle being a mother daily! The birth will sure wake her up! :)
Fishy, anxious to hear what you find out at that greenhouse. It would be a fun day to spend at an auction, plants no less, and see what we would come up with! I'm looking for a road trip anyhow. Could visit my cousin and her family that live in the Evansville area as well!

Well, I wasn't thinking about all taxes when I mentioned property taxes. I guess we get about 22-28% of our wages taxed, then we have sales tax on everything we buy, and then there is property tax, and sales tax on a vehicle or anything large you buy, so more than just property taxes involved here. I never really tried to figure out the total amount of my wages that go toward taxes ... probably don't want to!

I don't think we pay 50 % any more, my hubby tells me we pay around 30% now, but when we had our business a few years back the taxes were horrible, we had to quit that small business we had cause taxes killed it. It seems that lots of small business fail for that reason here, only the big businesses get big breaks. We still pay lots of tax, but in the long run it's nice to have good health care when you need it.

We pay 5% GST tax here in Alberta on almost everything. Lots of people go to the states from Canada to buy your cars cause they are way cheaper. I think I read something in the newspaper about our govement was going to stop cross border shopping of vehicles cause the local dealers couldn't compete, so they were talking about adding extra "sales tax" at the border. The ladies from work sometimes "car pool" and go shopping across the border too, they say everything there cheaper to buy.

Hubby on couch watching TV!! Better than just sleeping on the bed night and day. I think he's coming back to life!! :) :)

Wow Colleen no wonder you have such good health care..........they want to keep you alive and working so then can get all your money! Me too on watching the prez and Romney duke it out. Thought they might come to blows there for a minute............would have been cool to see who would win the fist fight but darn they backed off
