Hey, Addy, as if on key, the George Peach lily bloomed pretty again today, as well as one of the red lilies and there were a couple of white blooms, but couldn't get a good pic of them with the wind.

That one of mine is still blooming, this is the 4th day and night it has been open. The 27 degree night wiped out the taros, will be cutting them back drying and storing for winter. But did not touch the lilies. The lotus, last of the year tomato plants finished off, since that one night it is back up to the mid 40's at night.

The volunteer tomato next to my deck looks like it got a few leaves burned in the frost, but that's it. Taros are still fine, but they all have lots of water clover around them, so that likely helped shield them from the cold.
Addy, do you wait for the taros and elephant ears to die, then cut them back, dig up the roots and store them in ... what? I've heard peat moss, wood shavings, newspaper ... does it need to be damp, or best to be totally dry? This will be my first year drying them out. Also, do you start them up inside to get them a jump start? Thanks!

Mine were surrounded by plants, rocks, water, the 27degrees, heavy frost, smacked them. Mine are all dead now, no leaves left.

I will dig them up, trim the roots, the stems off (all per tmanns instructions at least i hope I am recalling right who said how to do it!)
Sit them out on the deck in the sun for about a week, get them dry. I just put mine in a box in the basement, in a little used room (our basement stays cool), just a little shavings to keep them from touching each other. In the spring pull them out and plant.

I got to bring in my Callas out of the pond soon, one I think I will let grow in greenhouse, the other I will freeze tops off and store dormant and dry in cool corner of greenhouse like I did last year. Its hard to save all the annuals, I run out of room. I had a elephant ear root I bought two years ago, thing just won't grow, still got bulb, does not look too bad, don't know why it won't sprout!

Try rich soil with regular watering. Another idea is to plant in in a pot of aquasoil and placed in the shallows or bog.

Time flies by, I loose track of threads too, and them I stumble on some exciting new threads... busy playing nurse. Honey moved around more and ate little better. Pretty Home Care nurse came by from the clinic and tended to honeys bandages and stuff. Nurse to make visit every day and clean and dress wounds. Its nice to have this service for free, can't complain about health care, they take good care of hubby. Poor dear, all the suffering he went through, it's nice for him to get great service from friendly caring people. :)

Great news, Colleen!!! Glad your hubby is feeling better! And, glad he has a pretty and friendly nurse helping change the bandages. That helps the mood as well.
Addy, what are your fish thinking??? LOL Must have had a warm spell again, huh? My pond is up above 60 degrees again, so my fish are begging for food. Just feeding them lightly now, but they are begging for more. Had some old hamburger buns, so tossed some in for them. Koi enjoyed it, goldfish, not so much.

Wow wish we had health care service like that but then I don't want higher taxes so guess that might be the difference. How much taxes do you pay in Canada Colleen if you care to answer?

Glad hubby is doing better Colleen :) it's good to hear! Country that plant auction is at a wholesale greenhouse distributor. I tried to call them today but got a voice mail. Ill try again, just to see what kind of plants they'll have going.
