As I was waking up this morning I could hear little owlet nearby so checking the cameras was a priority.
This little dufus reminds me of a little kid jumping into a mudpuddle - not an owlet pouncing into a lotus tub :p then looking around to see who noticed  Owlet in the tub

We have these huge 3” lubber grasshoppers, that come in beautiful colors. Fortunately, the mockingbirds usually pick them off before they do much damage.
Around here, lubbers will eat any and everything. The word is the only thing that takes out a lubber grasshopper is a Size 13 shoe (thank goodness a kindly 6'6" house guest left me one for that purpose after he helped de-lubber the back yard.)

that worked thats a good size owl.
Glad the link worked. I'd imagine they are about a foot tall but they weigh very little.
Here's another vid ( sorry it's jumpy) just for scale also to show how incredibly lucky I am that they are so comfortable being close to us! Yesterday I pulled up my garden kneepad/chair thingy and sat with this kid for almost 2 hours! Maybe 20 feet apart?? https://photos.app.goo.gl/PHwWKfckrTRH7Wjw6 I LOVE OWL SEASON

He/she will be gone soon so I'll post 'em while I can... he/she sat 15 ft from my fence for 2 hours trying to nap. Calling for the food truck the whole while :p Even while asleep: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6LbH6q9ktH5Pwcpx6

Here's a little stretch: https://photos.app.goo.gl/N12SwboL41WJP4W66

Just the most precious thing I've ever been allowed to witness. Late yesterday it was on my fence, course it was nearly dark, when a parent brought him a snack. I was about 10 feet away ;)

I have been fearing that the little owlet might have moved on to find it's own territory, but not yet! First thing today it was plopped on my fence then over to the popup tent and finally onto the lotus tub. I was expecting that a frog or goldfish might be the prey but alas, it was a poor hyacinth that was it's victim :)

Boy I love this little owlet - I will be so sad to see it grow up and move on but that's how things work.

Yes, it will be sad, but maybe there's a chance that he/she will nest close to you in the future. I would live in a shack if I could witness this in my yard!
