The cats alerted me to this visitor the other morning. We live near a small lake and we see RES’s all the time sunning on the shore and on tree trunks. However, this was the first time to spot one in the yard — on our porch, no less. Probably a female, searching for a place to lay eggs.

So technically they were in my neighbors yard just outside of my fence...but I just have to share them with you. This is a great Dad - a Pileated Woodpecker teaching his little guy where the best bugs are   View attachment 158021View attachment 158022
How adorable!! We have loads of pileated woodpeckers who visit our yard, but I've never once seen a baby one.

Very cool photo's @Hound Heaven , keep em comin! I've seen them around here too and a smaller variety also. Hubby took a photo one day finally of the little one on a pole. Think it's call a Red Breasted Sap Sucker:

While sitting outside relaxing (translation: plotting the next pond adjustment) yesterday I kept hearing the little owlet. You can always hear him calling out to the folks, I imagine he/she is saying how HUNGRY he is :shame: I didn't have to look far, he/she was directly behind the bog ...

This little one toddled right up the hill & into our yard yesterday afternoon. I had to carry it back into the woods & put it *outside* of our dog fence. Mama was nearby - we had seen her down in that area shortly before Bambi came to pay us a visit!
