Rose-breasted grosbeaks have been on my feeder nearly every time I look out the past few days.

Big week here - the Barred Owl couple nested behind our house again this year and this year they have just one owlet. He's appeared a few times but seems to stay on the opposite side of the tree so we can't see him much. But the parents are here a LOT - it seems they love to hunt here. I see them often - one got in the bog the other day but the camera didn't catch it. But I got a few other snaps.
The fuzzy one is the owlet and the other is one of the parents - can't tell them apart so your guess is as good as mine.
They all realize that I'm watching but I just stay still and quiet and they don't seem to mind me. Last night one of them hung out in a tree and watched me grill burgers :)

Meanwhile, here in Owlville. This morning one of the adults was hunting here and then stopped by the Lotus tub. Not sure if a goldfish was on the menu (the same 6 have been in there for a year). I could only capture these through the window and screen. Then a VERY noisy Coopers Hawk stopped by and upset the apple cart and everyone went off.
Now things are very quiet and peaceful again and Riley can get a nap.

Today the little owlet got excited and followed a parent down near our yard for the first time! He stayed low in the trees along the fence, but hung out for a few hours until nap time called. My neighbor got pics of the parent on the ground in his yard and I got a few of the kid. I got to watch him testing out his little owl wings as he hopped between branches and trees.
That baby is just the prettiest little bird ever

not to say the parents are shabby, here's one from a few minutes ago in my dogwood tree hunting in chipmunk alley.
