The stacked-rock structure is called an "Inukshuk", from the Aleut (Eskimo) language, meaning "in the shape of a man". They were a means of marking trails in the far North, where rocks were the only things available that would stand up to the elements. Here in Ontario you can see them along roads wherever rocks can be found (the whole province, basically). Every rock-cut has several along the top, but most are only piles of rocks. The biggest Inukshuk I've seen is between Blind River and Sault-Ste-Marie, and stands about 20' high.So many neat things can be made of rocks, I just love my rocks! Here's a picture of some "plastic" stacked rocks for sale at the garden centre in town, it's only a foot and a half tall and they want 30 bucks for it, I would just make my own!
