I have an almost 2000 gallon Intex pool for extra water lilies
I don't want to take up more space than I have on the pad, it is the only place to put this fan tail pond. So the 300 gallon works well, and with the fantails, population growth is slow. Under all that muck is a concrete pad, just can't see it right now.

Glad you got that all sorted out and the fish are safe. Hope you can sit back and relax today. You have definitely earned a break.
lol I am very good at ignoring something even though I hate the way it looks. So NOT OCD. lol So this weekend when we hit 60f I will do clean up etc. The only thing I must do is pull that one plant up higher.

It was draining so fast, we did the first thing that came to mind a stock tank, then less temp change for the fish ie house temps then back outside. Also no place to put it, no filters so I would have prob spent as much for a temp house tank as I did for the stock tank.

It has been rough................. and dear hubby is having some serious issues. Keep trying to catch up on the yard, almost to the point of hiring a crew to come in groom down, control over grown bushes. Then once caught up, maybe can keep caught up. Now that the bees are gone and I have two working arms again. But my bush hog on my tractor will wipe down the wild fields of flowers, I can do chopping , good exercise lol, and hard to find good help!

We got all moved yesterday. So far the only floater is a snail.

Then my niece called as I was dropping slime covered clothes. They stop by on their way to or from PA, overnight, breaks up the drive to from GA. I told them they could stop, but eat before you get here, no food, no energy, done lol.

My neighbor is beyond good, one reason we paid for 1/2 of their entire kitchen redo. She will drop anything to help me out. It as cold, I was covered with stinky pond slime, kept her mostly away from it. My left wrist is still so weak I have to be real careful on how I use it.

The big pond and other ponds all have ice on them, the new tank pond ice free. The cover helped. I just took it off to let the sun warm the water. And I need to raise the hawthorne it is too deep now. and just started growing great. So back into that ice water to lift it out. Put in some sort of something to raise it up.

They nest well, that would work. Just need to buy another one, recruit neighbor to go with me to haul it home. SPRING time lol. No way doing now. Here is a pic of the tank and the dead tub. We just tossed things out on the ground need to pick it up. Will need to save as much water as possible and move everything again. Five other ponds are in the distance. The snake food ponds.

I will need to hire some help to move the tub, my tractor might be able to lift it, but not sure. Trish has nephews that love to make extra money. I am going to ask my fav dumpster guy if they haul out hot tubs in their dumpster. May need to chop it up.................

I found one of the fantails in the muck on a seat, only saw it because it flopped a bit. Grabbed it quick did a quick hold in hand swish in the water of the tank, it did swim away. After that Trish kept sweeping any water with the net I took my fingers and dug though the spilled kitty litter, muck etc looking for critters, snails, tads, fish. The hot tub seats were all full of muck.

I will be checking once the sun is up to hopefully not see any floaters.

Thanks I sure did not want this! I did really enjoy the tub pond. The fish will have a nice pond sometime this summer, I have a ton of work to do to get the tub out, the tank re-emptied and moved. Then prepped for winter ie next winter. I am going to try and build up around the sides to insulate it. Also need to build up the downhill side, the pad is sloped away from the house.
It feels like such a relief after a big mishap like this and then once everything looks like all is working good again you can relax for awhile. Hope ya get all the fishy's and critters outta there before the next freeze. Now hurry up Spring and get here soon! At least the days are now getting longer

Wow! Just getting caught up here. What a bummer! I'm glad you got it sorted, but not fun at all. Having such good neighbors sure is a blessing!

Would a temporary greenhouse around the stock tank help to keep the temperature regulated? Obviously it would only go so far, but just a thought.

I can just imagine the conversation among the spiders tonight: "Let's move into this old hot tub, you said. It'll be safe, no one ever moves it, you said. Last time I listen to you! And by the way, you're feeding the kids tonight. And I mean that quite literally. <Chomp!>"

I think it will be ok. With that thick foam on top when we get cold smacked, the pond breather, and a wrap around the tank it should do ok. Now if we get another cold cyclone bomb down to 3 or lower, I have moving blankets to put over it. A propane heater we can sit out next to it, etc. We have not had frozen hard ponds in years. Tomorrow we are going up to 60f 20 degrees above normal..............go figure. By next winter I will have a double tank set up like @GBBUDD suggested. I did put a net over it, mr heron is still hanging around.
I did see fish swimming today, a few came from the bottom and swished around. Found a tad frozen in the tub, the ice thawed and it was still alive, moved it to the tank pond. Tough sucker!

lmao love your chomp! I looked where all the spiders were having a party, all have left for better digs.

I think you'll be alright too. @GBBUDD idea for next winter is a good one. Do you have anything near by that could serve a wind block, it's amazing how much wind affects temps and evaporation. As you know we covered our pond with a. pool solar cover on a simple lean to made of boards. I was absolutely amazed to look under it in the winter and see plants growing and the koi moving!

It is in a pretty non windy place, mainly due to our slope and being almost under the deck. I have that thick foam board I can cover it with when we get cold smacked.

I went out to clean the mess, but some frozen, some not, slimy mud, a mess, just didn't feel like messing with it. Going to try to when we get the nice warmer than normal temps.

Went to use the tractor, but the ground is frozen hard about a inch down, which make the surface slip on the frozen. My tractor was sliding, I picked up some stuff and quit, then went for a walk lol.

Will look tomorrow, to darn tired to care right now.
Im just a newbie but I just had a cold snap of - 30 to 35 C. Above ground stock tank insulated with blankets, bubble wrap and covered. Using a Ukal 1500 watt sinking de-icer and I dont even leave it plugged in all the time. My tank is 4 by 3.5 ft and only 20 inches deep. About 180 gal by water volume. Thats all I know but they sell them on amazon.

wind block, it's amazing how much wind
Very true when I was traveling staying in the 5th wheel through the winter, a simple skirt around it made a world of difference.

We have a week of warmer than normal now. I am going to , at least, wash all the gross pond mud drippings that are everywhere. We worked very fast and not neatly lol

The final resting place for the tank will not be done until I can move the fish again without stressing them out. April maybe. As the tank will need to be emptied to be able to pick it up and move. Pond water saved in buckets, fish in buckets, lilies in water etc.

I am going to try and get my neighbors nice young healthy nephews to help move the hot tub, paid of course. I reached out to my fav dumpster guy to see if he will haul it away. If so it will be gone sooner.
