The filter will allow for several different sized hose fittings, but there needs to be a "female and male" type of connection. This could prove difficult otherwise.
The big spinning ball is stainless steel, I got it at one of the pet stores here in town. I have three different sizes of stainless Steel balls. I think they are also sold thru Laguna or one of the other pond shops online. I may be cheaper to order them on line as well, They are meant to be "floating gazing balls" for the pond, if memory serves me correct. I have had these balls in the pond for many years. The funny thing is I never hardly take them out of the pond ever, not even in winter, and they have no "hard water spots" considering the city water is very very hard and everything in my house gets hard water spots, except in the pond. I think it is because that really big yellow flag that is over 23 years old, sucks all the heavy metals out of the ponds, and maybe that is way my pumps last so long too.... In winter I do not have them spin if really cold.
The spinning ball is a great way to get more circulation and break up the surface of the water better. Bigger fish need much more water movement to ensure good oxygen flow in water in summer months. The ball is simply placed there the hose spits into the pond. You will have to adjust the hose to a down ward position. I think is a great way to get more water movement without adding another pump, Waterfalls that are very wide, lose lots of water pressure and sometimes do not create enough water movement. If you have another pump, and a hose, you could hide part of the hose in wood or flowers, and get a spinning ball to spin in another area of pond to create more water movement.
