Wow, Brokensword, I don't think I've ever seen your layout, and this is fantastic! Looks like a greenhouse built around your pond, so bet you get to enjoy it nearly year round, huh? How fantastic is that! Great pics. How did you "cheat", though??? Stood on ladder ... or from outside looking in the top windows? Doesn't matter, great pics!

CE:

it just looks like a greenhouse around the pond--and I DO wish I could enjoy it in the winter as well, but tis only a screened-in house (complete with screen roof) that you're seeing. Seeing as to I could lay across the ceiling (I have 1x6 latticed together into 4'x4' sections, so needed a support plank to lay on and push my lens directly against the screen) and point my camera directly down, I figure that's about as aerial as one can get, ya know? I like seeing everyone's pond from above, but like to see the sizes, shapes, and textures of ordinary viewing better. Still, was interesting.

TMann; I posted last summer, late, what everyone here helped me with, but there was no 'build' thread per se. I got a late start and didn't finish until August, so this is my first full summer and I figure by mid season, the plants and denizens of my pondhouse should look a lot more established. And I guess I figure I cheated since I can actually lay fully over my pond and take a true aerial view, whereas most of you can't. Still liked the 'from the ladder overlooking' view better, as one of the two pics I posted above.

JW:

thanks! Always glad to risk hide and heaven for GPF's entertainment! (j/k)

CometK:

well, no one else can lay flat and take the pic, so I still think I'm probably cheatin' but well, it was sure an interesting view, no less! Glad you thought up the challenge!
Now, seems the next 'challenge' would be from 'water level' or even beneath. I suppose Addy already has that award sewn up with her camera's though...might have to make her don the scuba gear and have someone take a pic of that! Any scuba pics forthcoming from anyone?

Haha, I have scuba gear, but no need for it, can hold breath pretty long, and just sit on the bottom. LOL Would be a funny pic, though, scuba suit, mask, snorkel, fins.... pretty much lay on top of the pond. Teehee .... but I don't have a quality underwater camera. I agree, Addy has that award sewn up already!

Brokensword, I have never seen your pond before. I really like how you incorporated it into you patio. I think it would be great for entertaining. Re laying on top. I hope you were laying on either some 2x6's or 4x4's when you took the pictures.... great view. Everyone knows addy would take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place if we had a competition for underwater pictures! If someone else wants to start a new thread for underwater pictures go ahead. CE I really like how you "connected" your ponds with the stream. The above pictures gave me a much better idea how it ended up. Colleen thanks for the compliment. It's small but fits the size of our backyard. Also I have to get everything approved by the aesthetics judge before I change anything(my better half).

Sorry, JW, All prize money was already donated to this fine organization:

Fins Chicago is the city’s largest No Kill humane organization, focused on implementing solutions to end the killing of unwanted and homeless fish

Saving Lives

Since Fins Chicago’s founding in 1997, the number of homeless fish killed annually has dropped more than 50 percent. Fins Chicago is working to build a No Kill Chicago—a city where fish are no longer destroyed just because they are unwanted or homeless. if you are aware of a homeless fish please call our hot line.
Fins Chicago will find new homes for more than 4,500 homeless fish in 2012 through the state-of-the-art Adoption & Humane Center in Lincoln Park. The pondless Adoption Center provides homeless fish with the care and dignity they deserve while welcoming adopters, providing them with guidance in selecting their new fish and continued support for life.
A Solution to Pet Overpopulation

The Fish Chicago Clinic is the largest free clinic in Chicago and the nation. Strategically located in Little Village, the Clinic provides free and low services in under-resourced communities where the majority of stray and unwanted fish originate. This year, Fins Chicago will sterilize more than 18,000 fish which will then be released to area wide ponds. Some of the fish can be found in Garfield Park or Skokie Lagoons among other places where fish may gather. Donations to Fins are always appreciated and are tax deductible through our 501-3C program. Fins Chicago highly recommends that if you are aware of any homeless or stray fish please call our hot line to report the situation. We hope to find a fine pond family or community living situation within 24 hours of receiving the call. Often we are able to reassemble families of fish that have become homeless and young fish will be sent to fish schools. Thank you for your generous gifts on behalf of Fins Chicago.

Well that is a really nice thing those people are doing!
Sterilizing fish eh? Never knew there was such a thing and mine could use some of that! I have discovered little tiny ones again this year in my floating plant ring when taking it out. Was busily trying to rescue them off the netting and putting them back in the pond.

JW, Good luck with your tiny ones. I found either a tiny tadpole or fry and am keeping it in a 4" planter pot filled with pond water. I am waiting to see how it turns out. At first I though it was a tadpole but now I think it's a fish. I change about half the water everyday to keep the water fresh.

I don't see any of them today but they were so tiny they could be anywhere or they could have become lunch!

More on homeless fish. In some cities it's becoming a real problem! These kids try to help out by donating money for food and shelter and agreeing to find a good home for a fish.
