Thanks Tula. Congrats on your grandchild! We have three now. The three year old boy slept over almost every Friday night and we would do things with him on Saturday’s so it will be especially hard. No more feeding the fish together for a long time…. On the bright side we just planned to go there for a week over Thanksgiving. Our daughter who lives in Ca is going too so it should be nice.
I’m looking forward to introducing her to the fish next summer !

I have to chime in on the grandchildren issue. Dave and I have 5 kids total, in 5 different states. ND daughter and SIL have 6 year old and twins that are 4. IN son and DIL have a 4 year old and 3 year old. And his son and DIL live in VA, have two boys, I think they are 5 and just turned 4 (or maybe just turned 6 and 4 .. ). We haven’t been allowed to see these two boys for 2 years, sadly. Our other 2 kids live in MD and IL. The ND family just sold their house, and are having a hard time finding a house that suits them, and we have not been told yet what state they will live in so … hoping they live closer. We shall see.
So those of you with kids/grandkids close … treasure each day!!! I’m so envious of you. But on a high note, we live to travel/fly.

Well, we arrived home today from NJ and my arms are aching for that grand baby. She will be my only grandchild and I'm 64, so I don't want to miss important times with her.......could a move to NJ be in our future

Hi CE. I agree. We will see how it goes. It looks like we will be doing a lot of traveling. One daughter in Ca and daughters in DC with Sil and granddaughter and another daughter and Sil in Miami with two grandchildren. I guess it’s not too bad being in the middle because it’s easy to fly in all directions but agreed it’s not the same as having them here. I told my wife if she visited one daughter every three months that would mean she is taking a trip every month! I doubt that will actually happen but it sounds nice. Also I’m thinking of giving up my day job so we will see how that goes. I guess I want to be part of the “ great resignation“ !! I don’t think we would move though because my fish are happy where they are! Here are a few picsI took this week. The temps have been in the 30’s and 40’s for most of the week but it’s supposedly will hit 60’s next week. I finally stopped feeding them when the weather went below 50.

Hi Tula but how do you know nowadays if they will stay there? We think our DC daughter will stay there but the other two who knows? Our oldest daughter’s husband figured out during covid he can work from anywhere he wants to in the US or the world so no guaranty they stay in Miami. He does go to Europe a lot for work and they could easily live there if they want to. They really want us to move to Miami now, but it’s doubtful we would do that. We also really like Ca as a place to live if we afford that, but our daughter there who is in tech could easily move for work or change jobs. As a millennial this is the longest job she has had (3 years). Everyone we have talked to says if you do move it has to be a place you enjoy because you can’t always count that your family will end up staying where you move to.

My grandbabies are my two yorkies! They move with me!

A niece I am close to moved from PA to GA, no clue if they will stay there with the 3 kids, my pretend grandkids. Can totally understand what you all are saying. But not as intense.

Totally agree with you, CometKeith! My ND daughter told me 4 years ago, when her twins were born in Feb and my son’s first was born in IN, that I needed to spend 6 months in ND and 6 months in IN when I retired. I said, “I don’t think you would want me to live with you for 6 months!” She replied, “No no NO! You buy a house in ND and another one in IN!”
Geesh … I guess kids these days think their parents are made of money.
And now our ND daughter and her husband have sold their house in ND, but last I heard, they didn’t have a house to move to. She now says they have a contract on a house, but not disclosing where or even what state until they sign papers. All I’ve been told is it could be ND, MT, UT, or IL. I’m going to guess they move back to IL where her dad lives. He’s the only practical place for them to go with their 4 horses and 2 dogs. Her dad and grandpa also farm, and that’s the area where our kids grew up so … However, if they buy a house out west, it will have land for the animals so …. ‍♀️

CE. That’s so funny. I bet they move to IL too the way you describe it. Our kids over the years have told us what we need to do too. Why didn’t we add an extra bedroom for them when we rebuilt the home we are at now, why didn’t we get a vacation home we could all go to, and why aren’t we moving to Florida now or at least get a little condo there close to them. Our other daughters are a little more chill about it. We are planning a trip along the coast of California this winter and may only see our daughter there for a few days, but we see her quite often so she doesn’t care. My wife is going there this week. Our middle daughter in DC probably will be there for a while. They both work in government related jobs and it would be tough to find anything like that anywhere else. We were just there and it’s an easy flight from Chicago. Well at least we have fun places to visit in DC, SF, and Miami! Probably more to do in these places than ND!!

So true on all accounts, Keith. When Dave and I moved last year, my only request was to get us closer to an airport. We flew to DC last month. Dave’s boys are both in that area, one in VA the other in MD. I love to fly so we will go wherever they decide to live.
My son will likely eventually move back to IL I’d guess.

Two grandkids is all we have and they are staying here in this state as far as I know. Well one is 32 and the other is only 8 so guess things could change someday but I doubt it. The oldest one loves rain so this place is perfect for her. If I could ever choose a place to live it would be right on the ocean somewhere in Southern Cali. but too expensive and don't like their leadership. Not fond of the leaders here either but what ya gonna do? @sissy has it nice in Virginia now I hear

Beautiful Pond and very healthy looking fish! I am interested in building one like it and am wondering what the dimensions are of both the pond and the bog:)

I totally agree, no guarantee our children will stay put ! My daughter is a single Mom and a career gal, her industry ( pharmaceuticals ) is centered in that area, also Boston. I guess we'll have to see how things work out for now as we moved my 85 year old Mom here from out of state last year.

We do have plans to be together at Christmas :)

Hey Ruby. Thanks!! My overall dimension is slightly irregular and about 14 x 12 and 3.5 ft deep. It holds around 3000 gallons. Good luck with your pond! My daughter who lives in Miami asked me if I would build her a pond at her new house. That would be an interesting project starting a new pond from scratch. I think because it’s warmer there than where I’m at I might make it 4-5 ft deep.
