Funny that you are happy about more baby fish. I was out the other day and found 4 babies that made it this summer and my first thought was "ugh, why didn't the other fish and the frogs get these four?". I really don't want any more fish. Pond is happy with the amount that I have.

My 2018 Koi Round Up is underway. We started lowering the water at 6 am. This year I'm waiting until it's really low to get in and catch the babies. 4 survivors isn't too bad....I had 47 last year and am hoping it's considerably less this year.

Hmm... For some reason I really like seeing the babies. I saw another one the other day. It was about a 1 inch long shubunkin with really pretty colors. If anything I would love to trade a few of my new ones for a few of the olive drab green ones I see from time to time. When I moved my pond I moved every last fish to then new pond. I should probably have removed these but didn't have the heart to do it at the time. Not only am I happy about the babies, I'm actively searching for more Koi to buy. I'm obviously very addicted!

Your pond looks better and better every time I see it!

I decided to wait until next Spring to move my fish to the new pond, but I want to start running it right away either fish less, or add a few new one now that they cost so much less than they'll be if I wait till Spring
If I recall correctly last year around this time you purchased a kujaku, was it from e-bay?
Would you recommend e-bay as a source for new koi, and what would you say to buying fish this late in the season?

Keith, You were smart to build this pond bigger, so you can enjoy your "addiction " ! I'm really happy watching my four adults swim around.. I think my enjoyment comes from the long relationship I've had with them.......I dread the day something happens to anyone of them. It won't be long till it's time to tuck them in for winter :(

Hi Gemma. i have found buying fish on line to be pretty easy and everyone is interested in making sure you are happy with your purchases. My Kujaku came from Lurvey's on Dempster street but I'm not sure if they are still selling fish. I have had good experiences with Kloubec Koi in Iowa, and for imported Koi I really like Champion Koi, but right now they don't have any of the smaller less expensive fish I bought before. Also a lot of people like Kodama Koi and right now you can buy 4 12-14 Kohaku's for $200 if you check their website but most of their fish are much more expensive. They did have a auction recently starting at $5 and those were really good buys and mostly sold around $100. I think a 20 degree difference between where the fish is coming from and your pond is okay but I would think a 40 degree difference would be too stressful to the fish. Good luck and post pictures of any new fish you get.

Hi Tula. Thanks. That was one of my bargaining chips with my wife when I agreed to move because I was perfectly happy in our old house. Yes we all become very attached to our fish. Years ago when my dog got sick my wife reminded me how important the health was of our children in the big picture and to keep things in perspective. Shortly after that we had to take our daughter to the hospital and thank God she was fine. As bad as I felt for my dog there really was no comparison to the concerns about my daughter!

Hi Keith,
all my online koi came from NDK and I really, really like them because they offer 14days money back.(I bought one at Beni Hanna Nishikigoi to try them out and it went well so I will consider them in the future)
I am looking for a 9"-12" Hi Utsuri butterfly koi and NDK haven't had one in months while e-bay has had several. I would have join the auctions if my pond was running, but it's not. I'm hoping to have everything hooked up and running this weekend
Thank you so much for your input :)

Here are some end of the season pics I took yesterday. The last few days were 70's and 80's. Today it's in the 50's and the whole next week is supposed to be cold. I'll have to start taking out the floaters soon. The fish are still very active so I assume the water temp is probably in the 60's. I need to dig up my pond thermometer to start to take readings. I'm still feeding some and they are eating the food up pretty quickly.

Wow, your plants look fantastic !!! I did 4 lily pots yesterday, but have more to go. Not sure what I'll end up doing with the nice marginals and parrots feather.

Our pond is still in the 70's but cold is coming! well at least for a few days
Hi Addy. It looks like it is going to be cold here for the next few weeks. It was 37 degrees when I woke up this morning! I went bike riding on Monday afternoon when it was in the mid 80's so a 50 degree drop!
My fish are still fairly active. I'm really curious about the pond temperature and am going try to get a reading tomorrow. Hopefully this cold weather doesn't get your area too badly.

Thanks JW. I actually only kept the really large water hydrangea and got rid of the rest. I didn't know they grew so large! Actually I probably pulled out like a 1000 water lettuce over the summer and this is what was left. Every week I removed 50-100 plants over the summer! I have a large lily with the root ball floating at the top of the water. Do you think I need to replant it or will it eventually go to the bottom if I cut the old leaves off? I have had a lot of success with my lilies staying on the bottom over the winter but this is the first time the root ball is so high up in the water.
