@CometKeith glad that it was so easy to get your filter turned to a good position to drain the gunk.

Your pond looks like Summer is still making all your plants grow so lush and the fish look so pretty. They are coming right up to you begging for food
JW. This last week has been the most perfect weather I have ever seen. High 70's low 80's every day, mid-low 60"s at night and constant sunshine. We are getting this for a whole week. Thank you Florence!.. but sorry for your devastation in the Carolinas :(
Oh. The fish. They go begging at anything that shows up next to the pond.... birds, dogs, whatever!

Well I saw my first baby fish of the season. Yey!!! i have been looking in the shallow ends for a few months and couldn't see any. I have been thinning out my wl and wh and i saw a one inch white goldfish with a small dark spot that looked like a typical Sarasa marking. I also have a few from last year that are maybe about 2-2.5 inches now. They both have beautiful orange shubunkin markings and long tails. I think they might be really beautiful as they get larger. All my fish are doing well. I'm still feeding them but have cut back a little, The water is actually still pretty warm even though we have had a few chilly nights. My two Koi have been growing but I still have a few fish that are larger so they are not kings of the pond yet!

Our fish are still eating voraciously @CometKeith - I thought these cooler temps would slow them down, but like you said the water is still warm and that's all they care about!

Congrats on the baby fish! One more for the herd!

Thanks! I was so excited :) We live pretty close to our neighbors and have tenants too. I'm sure they all think I am crazy for watching my fsh so much. i have to get on my hands and knees with my reading glasses on when i look for babies. I tried to explain to our tenants the other day that watching my fish is like my yoga (ie. meditation) so they would not think I'm too crazy. Here is a picture I took the other day. Most of my fish have grown pretty nicely over the summer.

I guess I should mention it's not too cold for me either! I'm sitting on our back porch tonight listening to the water splashing in the pond and reading GPF! Not looking forward to winter!

I finally fixed my filter today so I can put a discharge hose on it. The nozzle was too close to my garage to fit a hose on it and I had to turn it a little so there is room to put the hose on now. It was actually pretty easy to do. I just needed to take the cover off and turn it. All my floaters have been acting as a bog but I definitely need to try to get the filter to clean the water a little better. I took some pictures of the fish. They are all goldfish except for two Koi. I only had a few babies since last year, but two of them are really pretty with long tails. View attachment 115765 View attachment 115764

Hi. The really pretty ones are either sarasa comets or shubunkins. Some of them have similar markings to Koi. A few of my nicest ones came from Petsmart and the rest were from online. My oldest one is a sarasa I bought about 10 years ago. I should mention most of them were born in the pond. Sometimes the prettiest ones are the ones that are born in the pond so I would never be in a rush to buy too many so the babies have a chance to survive and don't get eaten!

I had a lovely colorful batch of goldfish fry this season. It was getting cold so brought them in. Woke up the next morning, damn blackmoors ate most them.

Wow! Sorry about you losing them, but how did you even catch them? I always leave them alone and some years I have lots of babies and some years hardly any at all. I guess the pond knows how many it can handle. I had one big population explosion a few years ago and it's been pretty quiet ever since.

I did the manual procedure and placed the eggs in a separate tank.

Here is another picture of all my floaters. I probably took out 50 or more over last weekend but there are still tons more left. I only left the really big water hydrangea that you can see in the foreground and took the rest out.

Funny that you are happy about more baby fish. I was out the other day and found 4 babies that made it this summer and my first thought was "ugh, why didn't the other fish and the frogs get these four?". I really don't want any more fish. Pond is happy with the amount that I have.
