Your pond looks nice Keith and it does not look cold there at all. Mine's getting colder and fish sometimes are no where to be seen. I assume they go down deeper where it is warmer. I think we lost all the leaves on every deciduous tree today cuz of the strong winds.
Glad you saved those little kitties Keith.

Thanks, My pond is mostly frozen now with the pumps still running and lots of leaves. Who ever heard of temperatures in the teens in Chicago in November before? I think it's minus degrees below zero with the wind chill today. That's minus F not C!!

I am wondering if we all aren't in for a very colder than normal winter this year as our temps too are low for this time of year down into the 20F's each night but bright and sunny all day long. Ice is forming in my floating ring where I keep my Hornwort. Everything is covered in white frost till the sun comes up and melts only the parts it sees and the ground stays frozen throughout the day

It's ridiculous. I can't remember it being this cold here in November. Somehow I need to figure out how to get my bio-filter out. i think its going to hit the 40's next weekend and I'll have to take it out. I am hoping it doesn't freeze up and break. I am definitely not ready for this. JW, I agree. it's never been bitter cold here this time of the year. I think we are going to get hit hard this year. Colleen, nice to hear the snow is melting but we usually don't get snow until Dec. 1st here. We might get a 1/2 in tomorrow but not enough to do anything about.

My pond froze about half covered with ice last weekend, then thawed out pretty much. But, tonight temps going down to high teens tonight and tomorrow night, and close to zero with wind chills. Brrrrrr .... pretty sure ponds will be more solid ice by tomorrow night, but since sun is predicted the next few days, and 40's predicted end of week, I'm going to hold off turning on bubblers, just leaving everything running for now. Will be good test on Skippy and waterfall to see if they are going to freeze . Probably will shut them off eventually, but for now, it should be ok, especially with the sunshine warming the rocks tomorrow afternoon. NOT looking forward to a colder than normal winter .... NOT.

CE hope you are feeling better now :cheerful:
My pond it doing just fine and I finally turned off my aerator and just have the falls and my geyser and small aquarium air pump running. I sure feel better now that I have a nice net over my whole pond now so heron can't come for lunch.

Well odd thing happened last night I looked out at my pond and everything was off so had to go down today to check it out this morning ,didn't feel like going down there at 1 in the morning .Basement door is always locked and I have the key .The switches are all inside a boxes in the basement 2 switches turn off the lights 2 switches turn off the aerator and extras and 2 switches turn off the pumps and 2 extra switches for nothing yet .You have to open the cover boxes on them to switch them off and they were all turned off .No short tested the circuits and basement windows are all locked .I think I have a basement ghost .Maybe she doesn't like the pond .

Thank you very much addy and I do love it. I'm glad the fishy kids are safe now.

Sissy that is weird and maybe you did some sleepwalking last night, hmmmmmmmmmmm? Do they pop off if the breakers get hot? What could have done it?

Sissy, would a power outage or surge cause them to shut off? Could something have tripped the breaker?

JW Glad you got the net up for the fishes, and I am taking my nets down as the leaves are mostly gone and I have not had a heron here for quite some time now, the jingly things hanging above the pond keep him away.

Well today at the park I seen two bald eagles and one really big eagle, this dark eagle was twice the size of the bald eagles. I know you like birds Keith, so I wondered if you would know what kind it was. I walk under the big old dead tree and he just sat up top and look down at me. The thing was very large, and twice the size of the bald eagle sitting on the other side of the tree.

nope breaker is fine and has not happened since .I wonder if I have a Micky Mouse smarty pants in my basement .I tested the breaker and the switches and have been checking them just about every day and nothing since .No power outage because I would have noticed that .Basement has it's own 150 amp breaker panel box .My house upstairs has a 200 amp breaker box .I looked at all the wiring just to make sure nothing got chewed or damage in any of the outlets or switches .It is all incased in plastic conduit .Has to be here when it is in a basement .
